    Sirs, Madames,

If Teddy Bruschi can play linebacker after a stroke--I don't care how smart his coach is--he faces more contact on one play than Mario will season in a season, or the rest of his career. I remember Yushkevich being diagnosed with blood clot ... the speculation was whether he could play on blood thinners. I suspect ... "suspect" ... that having a blood clot in a leg (as a big hitter defenceman) or a stroke (at LB) puts you at significantly greater risk re cumidin use than a guy who has a-fib and bumps into more guys on the golf course than on the ice.

    YHS, etc

I was talking to a co-worker today and he noted that Mark Messier isn't officially retired; Messier isn't playing, but he has not filed his paperwork with the league offices in New York and Toronto.

My co-worker suggested, with Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman giving up their spots on the Canadian Olympic team, Kevin Lowe and Wayne Gretzky could nab Messier for one of the last two spots. Plus, if Canada wins the Gold, Messier would have won all of the major hockey championships (Stanley Cup, World Cup, Olympic Gold medal).

if lemieux and yzerman both retire this year and messier files his paperwork, that could be quite a hall of fame induction in five years.

    D'Oh.
Did he get a special exemption? He wasn't retired five years before he came back was he?

They waived the waiting period for him like they did with Gretzky.

The HHOF has since announced that they will no longer waive the waiting period for any future inductees.

And the waiting period is only three years, not five.

Good game going on in the late game on CBC right now.

Ottawa 1, Calgary 0, end of the second period.

    Emery vs. Kiprusoff.

    Ottawa-Calgary, 1-1, going into OT.

Who wants to bet we see a shootout in this one?

That could be a memorable shootout.

    Alas, no shootout.

Calgary wins with about 1:25 left in OT.

Dammit, I've only seen one shootout this whole season.
