Giving a big shout out for my fellow Owen Sounder -- Curtis Sanford makes 21 saves for his second goose egg in seven starts this season, blanking BBJ and the rest of the Penguins 3-0 on Tuesday night.
The Blues have all of six wins this season and Curt has been the goalie of record for three of them. He also has three shutouts in 16 career NHL games.

Did Sanford play for Owen Sound or did he grow up there? Or both?

JR, he was born and raised here and played four seasons here as well with the Platers.

JJ, When did the Platers morph into the Attack? (Sorry, up until last year, I only had passing interest in the OHL).

The rookie goalie for the Batallion went through Brampton's minor hockey system.

The team was first called the Guelph Platers and was an expansion franchise in 1982. It won the Memorial Cup in 1986 and moved to Owen Sound in 1989. The Platers' original owners sold the team in 2000 to local investors who renamed it the Attack. I'm still not sure which team name is worse. :-\
Sanford played for the team from 1996 to 2000 after playing Junior C in Wiarton and Tier II in Collingwood.

    He's a real Grey-Bruce boy, isn't he?

Yep. He married a girl from the Sound and they still come home at the end of every season.

Are there actually JOBS to be had in the Sound? I mean, other than jobs as a greeter at Wal-Hell.

I love that part of the province.

BTW, do the Attack sell out their games?

Platers is by far the worse name - someone tell me what the hell is a Plater? – although attack is pretty brutal as well. I hate names that don't end as a plural (Attack, Rush, Crew, Magic). It just does not work, for whatever reason. It's like nails on a chalk board to my ears.

Would like to point out JR Superstar isn't even mentioned among the longshots to make the team, but some one please tell me how Tom Poti is. The guy is terrible. He's a turnover waiting to happen.

There are jobs, but meaningful ones are getting few and far between. They're trying to promote this city as a tourist/retirement destination, and you know what that means for working people who are actually from here. You either move or you get used to asking if people want fries with that. :-\
It's part of the reason why I want to get my U.S. citizenship, just so I'll have that many more opportunities, not just for myself but for my kids. I may not actually wind up moving there, but it'll be nice to have the option.
And the Attack don't sell out. They play tonight at home and I doubt they'll draw more than 2,200. I'll let you know later. Not that I get to cover the game, no, I get to sit in the office and man the phones. ::)

Beef, the team was named after the original owner's electro-plating business in Guelph. The logo was a deformed lightning bolt. The Attack's logo is okay (a snarling bear snapping a hockey stick in two) but the name is almost as bad as Platers.
