What about Eric Staal for team Canada? Where's the love for a forward that is firing up a tiny market like Raleigh with speed and skill.

Holy shit, Beef, we agree on hockey related matters. :)

Besides being a thug, Todd is playing like shit. And you're right, Staal is having an amazing year.

U.S. squad looks pretty good but I'm afraid their goaltending is a little suspect. IMO, their only hope is Grahame.

Beef, just out of curiosity, but why do you think Giguere's name never comes up when we start talking about goalies for the Canadian team?

BTW, Leafs have a lock on the 8th playoff spot as of today. The parade committee is hard at work as we speak.

Rob Zamuner is playing in the Italian league right now, Beef. Don't like his chances.

You know, I always wondered what happened to him. Good Oakville lad.

BTW, Sea, do you know why no one has picked up Felix Potvin? Surely he's as good or better than some of the stiffs playing goal right now.

I ran into Zamuner at the Michael's in Oakville just before he left for Italy. I had never seen his wife before. An absolute stunner. Zamuner himself looks about 50.

I have no idea why nobody's picked up Potvin. Actually hadn't even thought of him this year until you asked. Cap room might be an issue for the teams that need a goalie, and I don't know how willing to work cheap he'd be.

kris draper will be on the canadian team as a guy who can play wing and take crucial defensive-zone faceoffs.

crosby goes -- because he can play wing as well -- with staal as the next choice. i dont think spezza will get there.

    anne zamuner is, indeed, hot.

Actually, the column I posted was Buccigross' from ESPN.com.

I think the All-Rookie first team will be:
    Ovechkin-Crosby-Petr Prucha
    Phaneuf-?
    Lundqvist

Spezza deserves a spot on Team Canada, as does Staal.

Well, it won't be for lack of lobbying on his part.

The guy's head will explode if he's not chosen.

If I were Jason Spezza and I didn't get selected to the Canadian Olympic Team, my head would explode.

He deserves to be on the team, simply because he's play has been superb. Who deserves to go ahead of him? Bertuzzi? He's been awful. Karyia? Hasn't done much.

    Sirs, Madames,

Rob Zamuner is just about the most decent guy that I've dealt with and the worst case of male pattern baldness. His hairline went back like the tide only more quickly.

He did say the funniest thing I ever heard a player say--and he said it taking a shot at the much unloved Tom Barrasso.

I talked a bunch of Senators into checking out a restaurant in the east end of T.O. Sorta nouvelle Italian/Greek whatever with a chef, a friend, who was just a mad hockey fan. I book a table and in walk 12 Senators (I was expecting six who had dined with me there previously) and among that dozen was the asshole goaltender who just arrived in trade for Ron Tugnutt. Anyway, the pompous ass makes it quite clear that, though I made the reservation and this was my friend cooking my dinner, may attendance was, well, unnecessary or at least at his discretion. He said to Joe Juneau--wanna order a wine? Juneau was in for it and so TB got the wine list. Some innocent kid said to T-Bar that it seemed like he knew a lot about wine. MISTAKE. Barrasshole started off by saying that he was building a wine cellar because he was thinking about starting a serious collection--that he had only 250 ... maybe 300,000 dollars worth of wine. Oooo, aaahh. Then he said that it wasn't a serious collection like Mario, who had $3-mil worth.

    Quoth Rob Zamuner: "$3-million ... at six bucks a bottle that's ...."

Gales of laughter. Everybody was thinking the same thing.

Incredibly Barrasshole sent back two bottles of wine as not being up to his high standards. I told my friend to spit in his salad.

    YHS, etc

I gave him shout out in my keep an eye on them section. HE very well could make the team, buttrying to crack centre on this team with some of the pre-mentioned players will be tough. If Sacik isn't there I say Stall is, but since there is no way Joe's not going to be there, Staal likely stays at home.

I know I broke into a cold sweat as I wrote that.

I think Giguere suffers from being in Anaheim. Too easy to fall off the radar there unless your numbers are unbelievable or you have the rep to begin with. I don't think Giggy's rep has bounced back enough from his off year after the Ducks SC run - although I think that his play is getting there, keeping in mind I haven't seen him play yet this year. I don't think he's as good though as Theodore, Turco, Brodeur, Belfour, and even this year Cujo - as much as it pains me to write that.
