So that's really, really awesome. It means the league is doing well, right? [/fanbanishedtowherethereisnohockey]

After reading the story, I gathered that the league is doing well. Fans came back, almost immediately and have kept coming to the rinks.

Just making sure. The only hockey I've got out here is of the high school variety.

I want a show of hands here, who thought the league would actually surpass the $1.7 billion it made in 2003-04? I thought it would take several years to get back to that point. Wow. Glad to see overall the league is healthy. What I find Ironic, the cap was put in place to protect teams like Pittsburgh and to help them stay put. Now that the cap is on the rise, with overall league revenues up - I still can't believe it – the Pens once again appear to be on their way out of the Steel City. At least this time they aren't filing for bankruptcy protection.

As well, this new cap, isn't this about where the league averagfe was at the time of the lockout? Does anybody know what the floor will be on this thing?

    Crosby's an assistant captain now.

Lord knows why Lyle Odelein ever was one.

And a question to all - Is this thread longer than the epic "State of the NHL, Globe and Mail series" thread of yor?

Hey! No one takes a beating, while looking like an ape, better than Lyle Odelein.

I think it might be as long as the "State of the NHL, Globe and Mail series" thread.

Well now that they put it out there like that they kind of have to at least hit the $40-million level (they said 40-45 million) or else there will have to be some kind of investigation into what the hell happened to the supposed revenue. I know if I'm the PA I'm watching them like a hawk now. But regardless of how hgh the cap goes, I think this has to be viewed as a good news thing, particularally considering everone was planning on it dropping. Now if it doesn't go up they come off looking like a bunch of bungeling buffoons.

Is it just me, or are the refs letting things go like some thought they would about this time? I have been watching a few games, and the things they called in October are not being called as tough now. I have a sinking feeling that we are degenerating back to the old ways, which is no mind to me, but to the powers that be, it will be a killer of scoring.

I'm not sure if I agree Okie. There are fewer penalties than at the beginning of the season for sure, but I think that's more a symptom of players getting used to the rules.

I still see penalties that are called that I know wouldn't be the last five seasons or so.
