Yea, the penalties have slacked off a bit. Not sure if thats because of the refs letting some things go, or the players finally getting used to the new rules and not committing as many infractions. Maybe its a combination of both.

But overall, id say penalties are down.

I don't know, I was watching the last two Carolina games and they was definate hooking and holding on both sides and the refs just turned the other way.

ESPN.com's Scott Burnside forecasts the rosters for Team USA and Team Canada. I still think Canada is going to walk away with the gold. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/colum...t&id=2260249&campaign=rss&source=NHLHeadlines

I was curious to see how the Bruins and Sharks have done since the Thornton trade. After doing some research, it's been very one-sided in San Jose's favor:

    Since December 1, 2005:

    Team records:

Boston is 3-2 and San Jose is 6-0.

    Goals scored:

Boston has potted 15 goals. San Jose has scored 29.

    Goals against:

Boston has allowed 17 goals, while San Jose has only given up 13.

    Conference standings

Boston is 12th in the East, with 28 points. Eastern Conference eighth seed Toronto has 35 points. San Jose is 11th in the West, with 32 points. Western Conference eighth seed Colorado has 35 points.

    Points for the traded players:

    Boston:

Marco Sturm: four goals and two assists, six points.
Brad Stuart: no goals and two assists, two points.
Wayne Primeau: no goals, no assists, no points.
Totals: four goals and four assists, eight points.

    San Jose:

Joe Thornton: Three goals and 11 assists, 14 points.

Two pretty good notes packages: http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/story/9100682 and http://post-gazette.com/pg/05351/623983.stm

The Wings might consider signing him. They could use a bigger defenseman with Fischer out. And he was a Wings' draft choice too.

the Bruins need help at D..........they should have never let McGillis go in the first place. O'Connell is brutal........I plan on inviting him to play in my fantasy hockey league next season, every league needs that one idiot, he'll fill that role nicely.

Off topic,.......what's up with Ovechkin? Is he playing?

    good question, ashy.

i went to set my lineup in fantasy hockey today and it had him listed as not active.

of course, it also had Jimmy Howard as not active and he'll be backing up Osgood tonight.

Have you heard this rumored? The Wings are on their fathers-and-sons trip in the South, and I haven't heard any rumors lately. McGillis...hmm...

    Has he cleared waivers?

mcgillis looked like he was confused 2 days after the edmonton game.

Few have been bigger than Savard's, which came on a night when Brodeur made several acrobatic stops and looked ready to add another win to his 12-4-3 career record against Atlanta. But with New Jersey's Dan McGillis off for roughing on a play that led to an unsuccessful penalty shot earlier in overtime for Atlanta, Savard took a pass between the circles from Ilya Kovalchuk and beat Brodeur with a low shot to the goalie's right.
