You, me and half the female fans of NASCAR.

They had to repave it at some point.

I do wish they could run some more races at these tracks to season them a bit better. When there's just two Cup and two Busch races each year at a track, it takes a while for it to come in.

The best part of Bristol was that it basically had just one groove, and everybody bumped and banged for 500 laps to stay on it, and you usually had to leave that comfort zone to pass. It wasn't like that at all tonight.

It's what NASCAR does best these days. See "Chase" and "caution flag in waning laps."

I did not see a second of the race because of the fiasco in Landover, but...

Sam brings up a good point. The fall race at Bristol last year was shit because of the Chase. No one wants to gamble. I don't doubt the repaving had something to do with it, but even on the old surface the racing was poor because of the proximity to the Chase.

In late June (or in the Chase), this would be a great race.

I cheated and tivo'd the race so I could go out to the dirt track. Now that was some real short track racing. I don't have time to go that often, but when I do, I'm always glad I went and can't wait to go back. The entertainment there tonight beat what Bristol had to offer by a longshot.

I'll give Bristol a few more races before throwing it in with Pocono and California as snooze-fests. It was pretty novel to see them being able to run all over the place. Not to be a honk for the drivers, but they seemed to like it, and they've been pretty hard on other resurfaced joints.

The Charlotte Observer's David Poole, who comes to the board from time to time, didn't pull punches regarding the "race" in Bristol in his blog:

Great post by Poole. I think he's spot on about NASCAR. It's become too predictable. They might as well cut the fields in half because everyone running up front at Bristol was in the chase for the Chase and those in the back weren't. Bristol used to mean "anything could happen" but it looked a lot like a merry-go-round last night.
Right now, "the sport" is like the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets and Cubs, competing against the D-Rays, the Royals, the Pirates and the Nationals.
The gap between the haves and have-nots has become too pronounced to make for exciting competition.

Jayski reporting that Jewnier will run in the No. 38 next year, with Yates changing that car to something else.

A spot-on post on how vanilla they made Bristol. Hope he can keep his hard card. :D

Good news for tattoo artists everywhere, if you have a 3 add the 8, if you have the 8, add the three.
