I understood it better after reading Newberry's notebook. Based on that little quote, I wasn't getting it entirely.

For all the money involved in NASCAR - the water in the fuel incident (among other incidents this year) makes the sport look very rinky-dink. There is "just bad racin' luck" and there is plain sloppiness.

Did any papers keep their folks in Atlanta the extra day or two to cover the COT test?

pretty much the ones with daily beat writers were there, plus one or two local guys there as well.

As God is my witness, I hadn't heard about the contaminated fuel supply when I posted that yesterday.

But apparently the problem extended to more than just the 11 and 22 teams.

Yes, I too would like to rescind my skepticism as far as Hamlin was concerned.

    Bruton's money buys up NHIS...

Texas becoming the kickoff to the Chase in 2009?

How long before Pocono and Dover sell out? (Or are kicked off the schedule?)

Secondly, I thought there was supposed to be some sort of announcement today re: Lowe's. Did the NHIS purchase push that back?

Vegas, probably. Unless he moves the Texas date into the NHIS fall slot and then takes the fall Texas slot and sends it to Vegas.

And the Lowe's announcement will probably be that they're going ahead with the dragstrip now that all legal obstacles in the way have been removed.

Best Buy sponsorship will move to the 19 car next year, BTW.

Anybody watching the World of Outlaws at Lowe's this weekend? Or would that be more appropriate on the open-wheel thread? :D

The link says that Texas has wanted an earlier Chase date that doesn't coincide with hunting season.

Yeah, that's true --- Texas and deer go together kind of like Dick Cheney and lawyers. Which means Vegas will end up with the later date, while Texas kicks off the Chase.

    There are deer in Texas?
