From all appearances, he seems much happier outside of Roush Racing. Maybe the image people at Roush were trying to force a square peg into a round hole.

(And Jack Roush is no prince ... the breakup of Roush Protofab was so vicious back in the 80s that some of the Protofab principals refused to even drive Ford products for years. One of the Protofab people is Jim Miller, who's deisgned some of the best GM-powered racers ever built, including the road racing Corvettes that run at Le Mans and the Pontiac GTO.R that ran in this year's 24 Hours of Daytona.)

Does anyone outside of Charlotte, Atlanta, Daytona and Kansas City care about the NASCAR Hall of Fame?

    Just posing a question ;)

    Richmond, maybe.

I need to make a Charlotte pilgrimmage someday soon. Not even waiting until the Hall opens. I just want to do a partial shop tour.

Kurt Busch is as fake as I've ever seen him this year. His mouth is upturned with this permanent, fake pleasant smile while you're asking the questions and he tries even harder to answer the question with as much blandness as possible.

Just wait...the asshole will break through the "nice" Kurt soon.

No. And I don't even know why there was a debate about it. Charlotte is the current "home" of NASCAR. All the shops are there. The only argument I could see for another city would be Daytona, but it has all the corporate offices and the Daytona USA thing already. Charlotte was the obvious choice from the start. I guess maybe this was a way NASCAR could force these cities to put up the maximum amount of support. That's just a guess. An educated guess, but still a guess.

And now, for those of you who want that Bristol/Richmond/Martinsville/Talladega look without the whole "banged up my car" thing ...

The Racing Donut. Static clear vinyl applique that makes it look like you've been banging fenders with the Busch brothers.

    :D

EDIT: Also available in 1/24 scale for diecast collecters.

The fact there's one on a police car (even though it is Bristol) frightens me.

Speaking of NASCAR ... anything new on the Chip Williams case since he was charged?

He's still in jail and the judge reportedly has told his attorneys that if he ever is able to make bail, he will simply double it, as he has once already.

He's "Richard Norman Williams" in the inmate roster below.

The hot rumor is the feds have set up investigations in the major cities that NASCAR travels to, under the assumption that he was diddling kids on the road as well as at home.

On the other hand, it's been awfully quiet lately, so who knows?

If he is guilty, and the evidence sounds pretty daunting, the bastard should be behind bars for life.

How in the hell can the AP continue to let Mike Harris be the main reporter? His stuff is UNUSABLE, UNREADABLE and doesn't even make any sense!
¶ LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Two races into the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup season there are three Dodge drivers in the top seven in the points, topped by second-place Casey Mears.
¶ With the myriad problems the Dodge teams have had with the Charger model, introduced at the beginning of the 2005 season, the fact that Mears, fourth-place Kasey Kahne and seventh-place Ryan Newman have gotten off to such a strong start is somewhat surprising.

Also, I thought midway through last year they went back to making qualifying a stand alone story. But here he is, two races in a row, making it 5 inches in the notebook.

Does no one at the AP edit him/police him?
