He's run 38 races over the past two years. That's more than a season's worth.

Carl Edwards broke his wrist (I think it's his wrist; we're working on a story now) tonight during a race at I-80 Speedway.

EDIT: Extent of injury is still unknown.

Do you know which one? I tried to call a few people that were there but couldn't reach them.

With all of these guys (Edwards, Stewart, Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace, etc.) racing on these dirt tracks in their spare time, I always wondered what would happen if they would suffer a serious injury.

    Hope this one isn't serious.

Stevie Wallace can not drive, period. Rusty is pushing him to do this. Spend some time with the kid and he is strange, kind of clueless.

An accident during a late model race at I-80 Speedway near Lincoln Nebraska sent Carl Edwards to an Omaha area hospital Sunday night with what appear to be minor injuries.

The Roush Racing driver and current NASCAR Busch Series points leader was racing as part of a ‘Carl Edwards’ promotion for the Speedway and was scheduled to appear with his brother Kenny and father Carl Sr.

The accident happened while racing in the 25 lap Super Late Model ‘A’ main Feature on a restart after the event’s single caution only a few laps in. A car slowed in the front of the field sending another car into the backstretch wall. Edwards crashed into the second car setting off a melee that involved 11 of the 28 cars in the field.

Edwards was able to walk from his car to his hauler where paramedics treated him. Shortly after he walked to an ambulance with an ice pack on his left hand. He was eventually taken by ambulance to a hospital in West Omaha for precautionary x-rays.

Hospital officials, citing privacy concerns, refused to give details of Edward’s injuries but one person did say that there seemed to be no indications of any broken bones.

Edwards who is currently fifth the Nextel Cup standings is scheduled to take part in a test Monday at Milwaukee. He finished sixth in the Busch Series event at Gateway Saturday night.

In January 2006 two-time champion Tony Stewart was injured while racing in a non-NASCAR event in Tulsa Oklahoma.

In December 2006, reigning champion Jimmie Johnson broke his left wrist when he fell from a golf cart. Johnson was advised not to drive for four weeks and was forced to miss the Race Of Champions in Paris the following weekend.

Sunday’s race, which coincided with an off-weekend for the Nextel Cup circuit, featured Edwards’ brother Kenny and father Carl Sr. Kenny was able to continue after the accident Sunday and finished third.
