Yep, our version is pretty much the same. Sorry for the false start, folks. Things happened rather quickly last night.

What began as a fun night for the Edwards family at the local dirt track turned frightening Sunday when NASCAR Nextel Cup star Carl Edwards was involved in a multi-car accident during the A feature at I-80 Speedway.

Edwards, who raced at I-80 as part of a promotional visit, was taken by ambulance to a west Omaha hospital, where he walked into the emergency room, still wearing his racing suit late Sunday evening.

There was no immediate word on the nature of his injuries, but indications were he suffered no broken bones in the incident.

Edwards started 16th in Sunday’s Super Late Model feature event and had moved up five spots before the caution flag waved. On the restart, a car appeared to slow ahead of Edwards’ machine. Another car got into the backstretch wall, and Edwards was unable to avoid it, setting off the incident that also involved Carl’s brother Kenny.

As many as 11 of the 28 starters suffered damage in the crash. None of the other drivers appeared to be injured.

Carl Edwards walked from his car on the backstretch to the infield where he lay in his car’s hauler, and was treated by track paramedics. He emerged after several minutes with ice covering his left hand. Edwards walked to the ambulance and later to another ambulance, which transported him to Alegent Health Lakeside Hospital, presumably to have X-rays on his wrist and hand.

Edwards, who is currently fifth in the Nextel Cup standings and leads the NASCAR Busch Series points, is next scheduled to race this weekend at Indianapolis. He is scheduled to take part in a test today at Milwaukee.

Sunday’s race, which coincided with an off-weekend for the Nextel Cup circuit, featured his brother Kenny and father Carl Sr.

According to Jayski, Ginn and DEI are merging, meaning:
    01 -- Mark Martin/Aric Amirola
    1 -- Martin Truex Jr.
    8 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr.
15 -- Paul Menard (will use No. 14 team's points)

No. 13 team's points are for sale to the highest bidder. This does leave Reagan Smith homeless for the moment, but it also provides DEI with a potential successor for the 8 car.

Does the 13 have more owner points than any of the MWR teams?

    EDIT: Yes. It's 34th.

What it does do, though, is cut down by two the number of teams MWR's cars must leap-frog each week for provisionals, because the 15 (from the 14) and possibly the 78 (from the 13) will be locked into the field.

Revised points standings, based on the moves and presuming the 78/13 deal, widely reported, goes down.

Just looked at the drivers' standings.

Mark Martin, who has made 14 of 19 starts, is 18th.

The next highest driver in the standings who has missed ONE start is Tony Raines -- in 32nd.

Shows you how good Martin's season has been.

Wonder how much money Teresa is dipping into the kitty to acquire Ginn.

Well, you know how to make a small fortune in NASCAR ...

Wonder if her alleged suitor has a financial hand in this?

Suitor? Didn't know she had one.

According to the release, the 13's points are going to, essentially, fizzle away. ... so then the 21 moves up into the top 35, right?

Boys and girls, I think we'll have our first Toyota in the top 35 after Indy. Go Dave Blaney!

Yates to have a press conference on Friday to "unveil future plans."

Haven't read anything about that, so I have no idea. Could go any number of ways. Kyle? Closing? Who knows.

According to NASCAR Now, Yates is merging with Newman-Haas.
