That's awesome. I cringe sometimes at covering events at Indy because you get the media who know nothing about the sport, they were just sent there by some editor or PD just so they would have the coverage. And you would think these guys would be smart enough to know their limitations, but that's rarely the case; they HAVE to make sure their voice is heard and this is usually the outcome. Tony can be a dick sometimes, but he's also the type of guy who makes you a better reporter because he makes you come up with good questions, as this unfortunate individual found out. Harvick's the same way. I did a lot of Busch races last year and on pit road after a race that he finished third, I had a brainfart and asked him, "Did you have anything for the leader?" He looked at me like I was retarded and said, "If I did, don't you think we'd be in Victory Lane right now?" I conceded his point.

But I was talking about this with someone today. Sometimes, you just have to ask questions to get quotes. If you're doing a story on the mystique of the track...sometimes you have to ask questions like that. I don't think "'I love this place' Tony Stewart said in 2004" would cut it.

Exactly, I mean I'm sure whoever asked it understands the importance of the track but was just baiting for quotes. Stewart could have answered with something about why it's special to him. It's only his second Cup win there right? He could have answered with something about it being special to win there. But then again, an answer like that just wouldn't be normal for him.

Stewart was a prick in the post-race press conference, even in winning. One or two snide remarks are one thing, but with nearly every question he had to make a scene. He made one remark to David Poole that made a reference to his weight that seemed very unnecessary, and at the end the inevitable will-you-race-open-wheel-here-again question came up, and he mockingly banged his head on the microphone. It's just really tiresome. And I like the guy most of the time for being off-color and occasionally difficult. But at least turn it off when you WIN.

The him and Poole weight comments are a running joke. They're riotously funny.

Tony was just being a smartass. Or just being Tony.

Tony might want to quit mocking others for their weight. He's put on a few lately.

I kinda figured that. I guess Poole is OK with it, or at least tolerates it. But to someone who's not around the traveling circus every single week, it seemed inappropriate.

There's an all-eating team that's a running joke. It's an obvious sign that all journalists are impartial. (Not Poole, who will rip anyone at any time. But other members of the all-eating team are known to refer to crew chiefs by their nicknames in pressers or to become too close to those in the garage.)

Yeah, but he eats at Subway! Haven't you seen the ads with him and Jared?

Yeah but Tony made a good point on air
(I'm paraphrasing here) - Something to the effect that he said all the TV commentators criticize him for climbing fences yet he hasn't seen one of them do it, yet.

    :)

Who criticizes him for climbing fences? If I see it one more time with the joyful yelping of TV wonks, I'll vomit.

Tony invents hate because it makes him happy to feel persecuted. The end.
