    From the Chevy notes...

BEHIND THE HAULER CHAT WITH JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT MONTE CARLO SS
THIS WEEKEND YOU COULD TIE DALE EARNHARDT IN CAREER VICTORIES. WHAT WOULD THAT MEAN TO YOU?
"That would be a huge honor. I'm just blown away and overwhelmed that I've gotten to 75 (wins). To me Dale is the all time great, certainly who I have had a chance to race against. I've never really had the chance to race against Richard (Childress) or really Darrell (Waltrip) in his prime or anybody else that is up there. To me racing against Dale (Earnhardt) is the best I've ever raced against. To match up to something that he's done and just to be one away from it is an honor."

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....you really think Gordon was talking about racing Richard Childress? I vote no.

    Who beat?

(and before any non-race types think the digs are on Gordon - they're not. They're on the transcriber).

Today, I like Kurt Busch. Actually, I should clarify that -- I don't like Kurt Busch. But I like him to win the race.

By the way, I can't help but think once again that the NBC/TNT guys look silly in firesuits. It just looks...unprofessional? Sort of like they're dressed up for Halloween. What do they need firesuits for -- the microphone is going to short-circuit?

I think pit reporters everywhere are wearing firesuits these days just in case.

Both SPEED's pre-race show and TNT's pre-race show had extensive features on revenge, etc. I've probably seen the Gordon-Kenseth push about 15 times this morning.

In fact, I'd say the Bristol push is the most-replayed moment of the Cup season. There hasn't been a finish for the ages or anything like that this year, so I guess that's the image that sticks in everyone's minds...at least for TV ratings.

Are you at the race, Jay? How come NH couldn't scare up some celebrities for the race? I think that's the first time I've seen Wally's World without a celeb. They couldn't even get someone from the Patriots?

Ha! California wishes it was about celebrities. But the track has a hard time finding real "stars" to show up. Unless you count Jewel and Hilary Duff.

Wow, Tony Stewart is currently out of the top 10....now that's amazing.

EDIT: No way Reed Sorenson wins this race, right? Although it would be a hell of a weekend for Ganassi.

EDIT 2: Apparently, 11th place is only 20 or so points out of the 400-point mark right now. That would help the argument that they don't need to add drivers to the Chase if 11th or 12th somehow gets in.

For my 500th post, I'd like to point out a disturbing trend. Each week, for the past seven weeks, my fantasy NASCAR pick has crashed or had something else bad happen to them (like Stewart running out of fuel last week). Me picking a driver to win recently is worse than any SI cover jinx. This is rough stuff.
