Oh, and I found out Tony Stewart co-owns a chimp. That read like the worst comedy show pitch in the history of mankind.

    Ahem.

It's already been done. And, no, nobody on this planet is at all interested in a remake.

I'm no Junior diehard, but I was so hoping he'd hold off Jimmie Johnson at the end. Of course, we all knew it wasn't going to happen, since NASCAR never gives out "the call" anymore. ;D Instead, they let phonies from SoCal take checkered flags on a regular basis.

Johnson's no phony, at least not when it comes to driving a race car.

    From http://www.nascar.com/2006/news/headlines/cup/08/08/jmayfield_belliott/index.html:

"It's not professional, that's for sure,'' said Mayfield, who crashed on Lap 82 of Sunday's race and fell out of the top 35 in owners' points that guarantee a spot in the next race. "That's the way everything has worked around here for a while.''

Unprofessionalism when it's suspected a team owner and driver are sleeping together? Say it ain't so!

How do you know he was alluding to the Crocker-Evernham rumor and not the unprofessionalism of the entire team? [/devilsadvocate]

Actually, Crocker was never mentioned in the linked story. Jay was grabbing at straws.

    Just catching up here...

I was surprised to see the posts about how the Brickyard race sucked. Did it? I thought the last 50 laps were pretty good. With 50 to go, I think there were five cars racing for the lead in a pack...

Then you had the pit stop drama there with 14 to go. Johnson pulled away at the end, but I didn't think the last 50 laps were bad at all.

I love IMS, but it's just a lousy track for NASCAR racing -- hard to pass, etc.

Johnson was up by over 2 seconds when the boring television late yellow came out, he was clearly pulling away.

No tire or two-tire stops rarely work at Indy, so you knew guys like Dale Jr. were meat, and once Johnson got by Kenseth on the first lap of the restart ... sayonara.

The race of the year was the Indy 500. Bear in mind, many of the on-site reporters don't cover the U.S. Grand Prix, so the 500 was their last trip to IMS. Not fair to compare, but the Brickyard was quite a comedown from that classic.

There's been better Brickyard's too, I think that fed the sentiment.

Given the hints Mayfield dropped earlier this season elsewhere, I think the straws I grabbed at (wasn't Jay) could well be legit.

I apologize to Jay. I misread.

Yes, I believe those straws could be legit. But your comment seemed like you were saying that was what Mayfield was talking about. And it wasn't. Just clarifying.
