The shitty thing about Gordon's day -- he started on the pole but didn't lead any laps. If he had led even the first lap, he'd have picked up five bonus points and would only be one out of the lead rather than six.

Oh well. He'll take over the lead next race and hold it until the end. Start clearing space on the trophy shelf for Championship No. 5! :)

I missed the Cup race. Did Matt decide all by his lonesome to not come in for gas or did Robbie give him the high sign? Whether it's dumb luck or bad calls, that team has lost too many races that they've dominated.

But the kicker is ... they still have a chance at the title.

And on a completely unrelated note, I was at the Champ Car race at Road America and witnessed the Katherine Legge crash. Dang! By far, the worst crash I've ever seen. And all she was worried about was how her bruised legs were going to look in a dress.

Based on the radio chatter, the decision was Robbie Reiser's --- Matt was complaining (loudly) as he coasted into the pits.

Didn't get to see the race; listened to the second half of it on MRN when I was on the road. But I tell you what, that last 40 or 50 laps sounded like some of the best non-asshole racing out there for a long time. Clean without going to Mark Martin (i.e. I refuse to put a ding on my car at any moment) extremes.

I was in Vegas this weekend (went and sat in the stands for the truck race; new banking was great and there had to be 60k-plus people there), but I missed the Dover race on Sunday b/c all the sports books were showing NFL stuff. Even Caesar's only had the race on one little TV, and I couldn't get close enough to see what was happening...odd for a weekend when NASCAR was in town.

I guess that shows the importance of NASCAR compared to the NFL though. Whenever I think NASCAR nation is closing the gap on NFL nation, I see evidence that makes me realize that's a total joke.

Side note: The truck race was carried on MRN, not PRN, but it was at an SMI track. I'm sure it's a simple explanation, anyone want to give it a whirl?

Unfortunately, I doubt many folks, especially west of the Mississippi view the Truck Series as "NASCAR"

When NASCAR launched the truck series, it wrote the promoter's contracts so that the series, not the track, dealt with the radio rights. Since it's the truck series, Bruton probably didn't really give a damn.

I'd say that's not a statement on NASCAR nation vs. NFL nation, as opposed to NASCAR betting nation vs. NFL betting nation.

So Happy Harvick wins the Busch race today. ... Man is that guy on a roll or what?

    From the story:
The win is Harvick’s seventh of the season – the most in one season by a driver since Dale Earnhardt Jr. won seven on his way to the 1998 championship.

Here's hoping the roll continues Sunday....a barrel roll down the backstretch on the first lap. If we're really lucky, he'll collect Earnhardt in the process. ;D

I might sleep in tomorrow and miss the start of the race. So I'll save us some time and ask now: WHO BEAT?

Pretty good race going on. Lots of 4-wide racing.

Though - WHY with 53 laps to go, does NBC introduce Jimmie Johnson's pit crew members -- ala MNF style?
