Will never happen. GM will throw lots and lots of money in Jr's direction to make sure he's driving an Impala rather than a Fusion.

And given the amount of money Bud would pony up to put Jr in his father's old car number (you think Roush and his lackeys are whiny when it comes to Toyota? He'd start screaming if A-B started ponying up $25-30 million)), the car would be whatever color they wanted. Expect red, with an occasional black one-off similar to the DEI car Junior drove at Talladega last spring.

So I heard Junior on MRN's pre-race show last night. Apparently there's a mutual admiration society between him and Max Siegel, DEI's new head honcho: Junior was saying Siegel will take care of business and take the team to a new level, and Siegel is saying on a link at Jayski today that he expects a deal to get done soon enough.

Seems like DEI has been missing leadership since Ty Norris left. Don't know what all the rage is about with Siegel, but if Junior's on his side, he must know a little bit about business.

Dumn layman question time: If Junior bolted, why wouldn't Teresa just hire another driver and call dibs on the 3? It'd be a dickhead move, but ...

I think Childers owns the rights to 3.

The first owner to field a 3 car in the Cup Series would be run out of the sport faster than you can drop an F-bomb. And that driver would be booed mercilessly.

    Ricky Rudd and David Gilliland.

Snickers and M&Ms are in the front row next week.

    And a quasi-rookie wins.

Hope he doesn't turn into Loy Allen.

I've had one very brief one-one-one with Tony...It was about two hours after he won the Brickyard. He couldn't FIND enough media to talk to that day. He's a good person with a bad temper. He's pissed me off just as much as I'm sure he's pissed off other people here, but at the end of the day, he makes NASCAR interesting, he gives us all something to talk about, and he's an amazing driver...

Don't feel bad...try being a NASCAR guy based in St. Louis...I have to listen to daily "What's the difference between NASCAR and watching traffic on I-70? Nothing!" Plus, the local media here has brainwashed the population into believing if you watch NASCAR, somehow, you're borderline retarded. Of course, this is also the same market that, the Sunday after the Cards won the Series, six different networks aired a live special of the parade...including the NBC affiliate, who decided that no one wanted to watch the Atlanta race. Obviously, you would rather watch the same footage being shown on CBS, ABC, FOX Sports Midwest, the CW affiliate, etc. Even the local MRN/PRN radio station didn't carry the race in order to do radio updates from the parade...

Are you kidding? Don't you remember when Mike Skinner returned to the truck series and wanted to use the 3, the number he drove in his championship year? The media and fans lost their minds. He bowed to pressure and changed the number. The only person who will ever be able to drive a car in NASCAR's top three series with a three on it is an Earnhardt...and probably at the end of the day, only Junior.
