I agree. Just like track and field is the sport of the gods, blessed with purity and cleanliness.

    Regards,

    Ben Johnson

Nah, didn't happen as Sirius 128 reported it.

Kernan's too good to be out of work.
It's sad that Claire B. didn't come over from XM.

For the record, I've revised my "confederacy of dunces" remark. Haven't heard the morning show yet.

On the other hand, Dave Moody ... ye gods.

If Moody's only job were to conduct interviews, he'd be brilliant. Some of the best interviews I've heard in motorsports were conducted by Dave. The problem with his show is, he tries to be funny and he never stops taking calls. I know the producers probably tell them all to take as many calls as possible to make the listener feel like they're getting their money's worth, but fuck...do we REALLY need 19 callers a segment saying the exact same thing? If I want to hear a fan's opinion, I'd sit with the fans at the races. I tune in to hear, in this order: News, expert opinion, interviews, and stories about "the good ole days." I don't need to hear a caller spend three minutes kissing the hosts' asses and agreeing with everything he said. Dedicate one segment to callers, let them ask a question, hang up immediately, answer the question, and move on...

Vaseline-like substance in the engine? Too many possibilities there for a raunchy reply.
Looks like David Hyder is out of a job, btw. Wonder how he'll pay that $100,000 fine, since I doubt Mike Waltrip will be cutting the check.

I think the interesting part of the Waltrip "saga", is watching TRD's (Toyota) response. They're understandably hyper-sensitive to the reaction to their arrival in Cup......and doing a ton of damage control. Not the sort of headlines they were hoping to make.

Out of mere curiosity, I'm wondering whether publications are putting more people on the ground in Daytona Beach. I mean, I know of a few guys who handle almost all of the NASCAR coverage themselves. But that's impossible with all that's going on there.

Also, where does this rate in terms of the busiest Speed Weeks? Is this the newsiest ever? It sure seems that way.

They get caught once, are told to change manifolds, then they put the same stuff in the new one and get caught again. Gotta admire a consistant effort.

I haven't been in the garage area for a while now, but I just assumed that when Toyota went with MWR Racing, Waltrip would be the face of the operation and Toyota would run the program and make sure he had the cars to qualify and run up front. I guess they haven't been paying too much attention to Cup racing the last few years.

I think most (relatively medium+ sized) papers that have tracks in their markets have at least two people on the NASCAR beat.

I talked to one of the guys I work with who's done there...he said it's absolutely nuts. He's been covering NASCAR since the early 80s and says he's never seen an environment like this...

Is there a big Japanese contingent there, now that Toyota's in the dance?
