Sure. But the writing didn't convey that, and I poked a bit of fun.

"what better test for the next world cup than that, which will be played in Africa against European teams."

"That" refers to something other than the World Cup, likely the the Confderations Cup, therefore the "which" refers to the Confed Cup, and you therefore made your point twice.

    A couple other things:

    - a US-Mexico matchup in the quarters? No thanks; don't want to risk elimination that early. The semis? Absolutely. Eliminate Mexico early so Chicago isn't completely packed with anti-American sentiment, if the US should manage to advance. Either way, the US should reach the final easily.

    - Trooper: agree regarding the morons at Bigsoccer. Lot of the fanboy types who jumped on the bandwagon after 2002, think taylor Twellman is a major part of our national team, and think a foreign coach is automatically superior to any American. In other words, standard sports fan Internet message board, full of takes that have journalists and such shaking their heads, but have the mouth breathers saying "hell YEAH!"

who cares about risking elimination early, what the hell difference does it make if the U.S. loses in the quarters or finals, if it doesn't win the tourney it is going to be regarded as a huge disappointment anyway

As far as a semifinals matchup with Mexico "so Chicago isn't completely packed with anti-American sentiment," that doesn't really make sense considering the semis will also be in Chicago and the final is just three days later ...

Gold Cup: The best players should be there. It's our home confederation's championship, plus clubs wouldn't be under FIFA obligations to release players for the Copa America (since the US is a guest team).

Mexico: We'll have to beat them sometime. As long as we continue to heap pain and misery on them, I'm a happy Trooper.

DMB: Looks like GBP 700K or $1.3 million to go to Rangers. Solid move, gets back in the Champions League and work with a fairly competent manager in Walter Smith.

BigSoccer: There are quite a few intelligent, level-headed posters on there who consistently provide good information. Problem is, the signal to noise ratio is so off-kilter it's hard to find much more than hyperbole and sycophants.

I agree. Rangers is a very good team, but I don't think DMB received enough of a shot from Citeh in the EPL. I was hoping he'd get a shot somewhere else in the EPL.

    For a second-place squad, they aren't half-bad.

Ha, good point, Celtic would have been a better option. ;D

Your anti-Celtic software makes my posting of photos futile, so I've stopped trying. Much like Rangers stopped ... oh, nevermind, I'll be nice. ;D

That was a nice win for the U.S. tonight. Good goals for DMB, especially the second. Beautifully guided through the crowd.

Not quite sure if DMB intended the ball to go there, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Decent game against a bad team. No breakout stars among the new faces, which is a little bit troublesome.

I watched a portion of the game as my body is still in detox mode. I saw the US go up 1-0 and then I turned it off.

Beasley to Rangers seems to be moving right along.
