Check your UHF band! Yes, I'm actually somewhat serious on that. I remember doing that years ago.

Real Madrid sacked Capello today. Ladbroke's has installed Bernd Schuster as the betting-line favorite to get the gig.

It's hardly the first time they've pulled such nonsense. The bigger head-scratcher is their wanting more "dynamic" play, so naturally they turn to ... a German? ???

Bernd Schuster isn't the first name that comes to mind when I think of coaches who swash buckles. Thomas Schaaf maybe, but not Schuster....

These guys have less shelf life than NBA coaches.

UHF!?!?!? WTF!?!?!? I'm only half serious. Seriously, though, unless a UHF signal can travel more than 150 miles, I'm not getting any UHF signal.

If it can get this signal, you're telling me I'm piping digital cable into my apartment when the rest of the world is getting this match via free TV?

BBam, it depends on where you live. Some parts of the country -- like those with large Hispanic populations -- can get local Univision, Galavision or Telemundo over the air.

Others, like my exceedingly whitebread neck of the woods, have to rely on more newfangled means.

The top reserve teams for Chivas and America are coming to town next month for a match, which strikes me as similar to holding a game in Mexico between the Yankees/Red Sox AAA affiliates. I'm semi-seriously thinking of snagging a couple of tickets, but I wonder if (A) the quality of play would be decent and (B) what kind of draw do you think this would be among the regional Hispanic community? If I go, I want a good atmosphere, and I'm not betting on my fellow gringos to provide it.

    dixie,

It's Chivas v America. There'll be plenty of quality and atmosphere on display.

Anyone stuck at work or away from GolTV/Telefutura? I'd be happy to provide TrooperTracker service again. Ray "ORGASMIC FOOTBALL!!!!!!!" Hudson is busy gesticulating on GolTV at the moment.

For those that missed the early game, Paraguay handed Colombia a 5-0 beatdown. Odd thing was, it didn't look like Colombia was playing that poorly.

    Lineups!

    USA
    GK: Keller
    D: Wynne, Conrad, Demerit, Bornstein
    M: Olsen, Feilhaber, Clark, Mapp
    F: Johnson, Twellman

    ARG
    GK: Abbondanzieri
    D: Ayala, Heinze, Zanetti, Milito
    M: Riquelme, Mascherano, Cambiasso, Veron
    F: Crespo, Messi

    PENAL PENAL PENAL PENAL PENALTEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

EJ gets in between two Argie defenders and gets clipped from behind in the box. Looks like he played for the contact, but it worked.

EJ to take ... easy sidefoot finish. 10th minute, 1-0 to the USA! Great start, but now they need to keep playing. I'm not sure bunker/counter is enough to see this one out.

  12. That didn't take long. Golazo Hernan Crespo.
