Meanwhile, Carlos Toja has taken over for Dallas against D.C. United. Two goals in 10 minutes to get the game to 3-3.

Toja has been one of the unnoticed adds MLS has made. I've seen him play a few times, and he's never been bad. And this has been a great game, flowing back and forth, the atmosphere in D.C. sounds amazing.

This is the sort of match that makes people soccer fans.

If anyone can watch FSN Southwest, this is one hell of a match.

Toja just came off in a substitution.

I have MLSlive, watching it online. And since that's over as a 3-3 tie, It's time for the end of RSL and Kansas City. Nice goal by Eddie Johnson in the first half.

They lost 2-1 after extra time to Austria this afternoon.

Altidore scored early, but Austria tied the game right before halftime. Then they got a goal right before the end of the first period of extra time.

U.S. had a bunch of chances, but couldn't get a goal. They should have been up at least 2-0 when Austria got their equalizer, and had chances in extra time before and after Austria took the lead. They were down to 10 men for the second period of extra time after Anthony Wallace got sent off for a second yellow, but they still created chances after that.

That sucks. Are they eliminated or are they still alive?

That's it. Straight knockout after the pool play.

Damn, for some reason I thought they were in pool play still.
OK, I will now return to my rock and not try to talk about soccer anymore.

Apparently there remains some doubt as to whether Leeds will be allowed to start the new season. I'm sure they will, but my, have they ever fallen fast.

That's been an amazing implosion. Call it the "Curse of Cantona". Once he left for Man United, they were never the same again.

The second half of that Austria match might have been the worst I've ever seen a U.S. team play, at any level. They looked like a U-10 team that took a wrong turn to a AYSO tournament in Buffalo and wound up in Toronto instead. Bradley, Rogers, Adu, Zizzo -- they couldn't put a decent touch on the ball for nearly an hour, after looking so good early on. And then Adu had three ghastly touches in rapid succession in overtime, when he should have scored the winner. Very disappointing performance against an Austria side that brought very little to the table.
