I've been to just about every MLS venue that currently exists (no Swamp, alas). The only place I've heard music during the run of play is Crew Stadium.

    zizz,

Keep watching your European soccer. Keep watching your college soccer.

We'll keep a light on for you.

The pastor has returned from the Barca v RBNY game. I was able to meet up with a few individuals that I hadn't seen in a while, so that was nice.

I also did my best to almost end up in a fight. Real fun stuff like, "Barcelona sucks!" and then watching as a guy says, "You said what?" and then I look him in the eye and repeat it.

Now, I will mention that the game ended at 9:30pm. I live 10-minutes from the stadium. I'm home now because after the game more fun is to be had.

Ives is a good man. We stayed at the same hotel as he did in Frankfurt before the US-Italy game and spent some time talking to him.

I had to miss the RBNY-Barca game due to work obligations, but it was a good showing for RBNY in the first half. Not so much the second. It would be great if even 5,000 extra fans made it to Wednesday's game against DC as a result of going to Saturday's game. But I doubt it.

Webster, you were missed on Saturday. I was disappointed in learning you wouldn't be arriving. Maybe Wednesday.

Ronaldinho and Messi are two exceptional players. There are few like them in the world.

I was a bit annoyed at the crowd's over-reaction to nearly everything he did. A RBNY player would juke and get past someone and no one blinks. Ronaldhino does the same and the crowd acts like the RBNY player's ankle was broken.

I sort of expected it, but it was way over the top.

I would like to see a few fans show back up, but they won't. They're just a bunch of bandwagon fans that feel the need to invest in a league they have no connection with.

It's the "wow, we've heard of HIM!" syndrome. Galaxy games are a prime example. Cobi Jones goes in, touches the ball, etc., people cheer as if he's still in his prime.

Pastor -- out Wednesday as well, unless my case which is going to trial settles. I'm actually madder about that than yesterday's game.

One factor in the overreaction to Ronaldinho is that he is easy to spot given his hair and his headband. Kind of like Cobi, but with a lot more skill.

  10. maybe the crowd thinks it is Kobe Bryant on the field

Sorry to hear that. Soon enough you'll be back  :)

Very true, but the same thing happened with Messi. Messi did give the crowd the thumbs up a few times.

The one thing that's not covered in Ives' column is the simplest: If you really love soccer, why wouldn't you be a fan of both?
The leagues are not in competition. They don't play at the same times. They don't play each other except in exhibitions. They don't even play on the same continent. And yet we have this division. It's ridiculous.
