I don't see Becks moving to the US just yet. There are plenty of teams in the EPL that are willing to pony up the bucks for him. He'll come over when he's just about useless.

LA will certainly sign someone. Who that is will be anyone's guess though.

I love Becks, but let's be honest, there is no spot for him at Man United, Arsenal or Chelski and he ain't signing with Liverpool. Hell, Lennon would be ahead of him at Spurs. So, if he wants to come back to England, he's got to go to a second rate team. Not sure if his ego would permit him to do that with the only benefit an outside chance for a subs spot at Euro 2008. A huge contract with L.A. might be the answer. It allows Posh to seek out her Hollywood dreams and makes him the face of MLS (and Adidas in the US).

    From abcnews.go.com:

EXCLUSIVE: David Beckham Signs With U.S. Team
Soccer Star to 'Bend It' With Los Angeles Galaxy
Jan. 11, 2007 — - International soccer superstar David Beckham is coming to America to play for a U.S. Major League Soccer team.

The U.K.-born Beckham, 31, has signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

"I've played now for two of the biggest clubs in the world. I've played at the highest level for 15 years, and now I think I need another challenge," Beckham said.

The announcement has the sports world buzzing.

"David Beckham coming to the United States is … [like] Tiger Woods meeting Brad Pitt on the red carpet," said USA Today sports columnist Christine Brennan. "This transcends sports. This is a big, big deal."

Outside the United States, Beckham is not only the world's biggest sports star, but also a certified sex symbol. His moves off the field are followed just as closely as his moves on the field.

He is married to former Spice Girl Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, and the couple is a favorite target of the British paparazzi.

And companies know that. He's received $20 million a year to push Pepsi and Adidas, and his Adidas cleats fetch $450 a pair.

In the United States, he's not a household name -- at least not yet.

But media watchers are gambling that a lot more Americans will know him very soon.

"All that fame and fortune that he's amassed, which is already the world's largest snowball, is going to be rolling down the hill in the United States gathering momentum," Brennan said.

Wow. That was fast. It'll be interesting to see what the reaction is from the US media. I think it'll be great for the league. As someone who lost interest in the MLS after my hometown team folded, this will get me watching again.

    A couple of other points:
--I guess this means he gives up on the English national team
--Will we see other big-name stars? If Ronaldo joins MLS in the next year, it'll be another huge dose of big news.
--How much impact will he have on the field? Who knows. But it'll be fun to watch.

Also, when will he join? I assume that his contract with the real Real goes through May, so I don't think that he needs to wait until the summer transfer window. Will they let him leave now? After they are out of the Big Cup?

Uh ... I was half kidding when I suggested L.A. Really didn't think it would happen, but ...

Ronaldo is in constant discussions. As a fan of RBNY, the team looking into obtaining Ronaldo, I am not all that excited. I think he's too fat and lazy.

There are other names floating around. Some are better than others.

    Say what?!?!
Bob's the man right now. Unless, of course, there is a deal out there that I'm woefully unaware of.

(Damn it. This is what happens when I spend the morning searching for Rangers transfer rumors.)

Most of the figures are in GBP (pounds sterling). According the current exchange rate 1 USD = 1.94959 GBP.

So, for instance, the amount he'll earn a day will approximately work out to be $136,489.
