There is also a new trailer out for Luke Cage Season 2 today, but I thought this one was more worthy of discussion. It is a tie-in with ESPN, like Marvel another Disney property. I guess it's a clever idea, but I found it annoying. I'm not sure if any of this will show up in the actual series, but Stephen A. Smith does make an appearance as himself in Season 2.

I was 50/50 on whether or not I would watch another Luke Cage season. I am no longer on the fence.

Am I correct in thinking that pushed you to the negative? I'll probably watch, but so far the trailers have me less excited about it rather than more,

Point of order, "Return of the King" didn't need to be better than the previous two films, it only needed to be better than the films nominated for the 2004 Academy Awards. It wasn't better than "Mystic River," so in that regard, I think you're right that it won mainly because the other two had not.

I thought Mystic River was a fantastic sequel to Mystic Pizza and was robbed.

There is absolutely no way "Infinity War" gets a Best Picture nomination. "Black Panther," which had a better script and better acting, would get the nod before it did, and there's no way they'd go with two Marvel movies. Plus, it would have to jump past all these movies that are likely to be in the discussion for the Best Picture nominations (they all have some tie to past Oscar winners or nominees and are the type of movies the Academy loves):

    Mary, Queen of Scots
    A Star is Born
    Beautiful Boy
    First Man
    If Beale Street Could Talk
    Backseat
    Boy Erased
    My Life on the Road
    The Women of Marwen
    BlacKkKlansman
    Roma
    On the Basis of Sex
    Radegund
    Bohemian Rhapsody

I'd even add as long shots "Incredibles 2" (I have high hopes so sue me), "Won't You Be My Neighbor" (would be a super long shot since no documentary has ever been nominated) and "Isle of Dogs" (the Academy loves Wes Anderson). There is no way Infinity War jumps all those movies.

It doesn't have to jump all of them to get nominated, just six.

A few years ago, I probably would have said the same thing about Mad Max: Fury Road.

I also doubt it will happen. But out of all the Marvel movies, it was the first one that left me thinking it had a chance at, and maybe should, being considered.

I'm not trying to go down a political road, but I agree with JRoyal that "Black Panther" would probably get the nod in a Marvel Oscar showdown, mostly because of the way it was perceived as a cultural breakthrough and nominating it for best picture would affirm that in a very big way. I can totally see the Oscar voters doing that, giving some technical nominations and awards to "Infinity War," and giving themselves a very enthusiastic verbal blowjob at the end of it.

"Fury Road" was a critical darling. "Infinity Wars" hasn't been anywhere near as lauded by the critics. If "Infinity Wars" was at 97 percent from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, I'd say it had a shot.
