I think John Madden reads this board.

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2011/12/john-madden-on-tim-tebow.html

Hall of Fame coach John Madden said he's amused by the way Tebow's success seems to irritate some of his critics.

"It's amazing watching it," Madden told The Times before the Broncos' latest victory, a 13-10 overtime win against Chicago.

"Because there were pundits that said, 'He can't play. He can't throw. Tim Tebow will never be a pro.' Then after they make that statement, you watch them and they start to root against him to make their point. Then the third step is, he plays and he wins, and they get mad.

"They're mad at Tebow because they said he couldn't play, and he plays and wins. That's the part of Tebomania that cracks me up. They root for what their prediction is, and then if their prediction is wrong they get mad, mad at Tebow!"

And this is the kind of thing that drives objective observers nuts.

It's not the defense that might expose Tebow. It's if New England scores two first quarter TDs and it becomes obvious that just not turning the ball over is going to be enough to keep Denver in the game.

    But Tebow didn't say it.

This is akin to Karlos Dansby saying getting beat by Tebow brought the Dolphins closer to God. Amusing, but so? Should this make people resent Tebow?

Nobody said he did. TT's been playing it down the middle, according to his beliefs, and that's cool with me, not that he gives a damn what I think.

But it's followers who attribute heavenly powers to earth-based athletic performers that provoke the eye-rolling. Where was Mr. Hanson after the Lion game, and where will he be the next time somebody jumps out 17-0 on this crew, holds sway, and the two-minute miracle cure isn't feasible?

"He can't hit, can't run, can't field. He's no nice guy... all the little SOB can do is win."

    Leo Durocher, on Eddie Stanky.

Tebow reminds me of Joe Kapp. Not a prototype QB by any stretch of the imagination, but a leader and a winner.

Part of the difficulty in assessing Tebow for the long term is that there is no fucking way he benefits from this much luck for his career. (He can't. Right? Right?) It certainly helps he's smooth in the fourth quarter, but how many of these comebacks were helped by the other team completely shitting itself? Or the Broncos having a kicker who could hit everything while the other team's kicker struggled? Or drawing the Bears without Cutler and Forte? Or drawing Carson Palmer's first game back? And how much can he improve on his throwing? And with an offseason to prepare, will opposing coaches finally figure out how to stop Tebow in the fourth quarter?

The whole Tebow ride is amazing now because I can't think of anything like it, ever. No doubt, at this moment, anybody who wants to beat the Denver Tebows needs at least a 17-point lead entering the fourth quarter -- and needs to score again so Tebow doesn't have to be only one or two scores down. It also seems like a team needs a mindset that while in other games you might sit back or play conservatively in the fourth quarter with a two-score lead, against Tebow, you just can't do that.

Oh, he's a football player, no question. You want to try to tackle him in the open field? I don't.

Which begs the question: Who cares what he says?

There are plenty of eye-rolling groaners from here, on the weekly NFL threads, that have nothing to do with religion.

Let me get this straight: There are people who actually believe that God is assisting Tim Tebow? That's not just a humorous meme?
