It was an interesting turn of events, considering some of the reactions from the pro-Tebow crowd a few weeks ago when the Tebow critics didn't rush over to beg for mercy and acknowledge their previous sins when he single-handedly pushed Marion Barber out of bounds and kicked a 59-yard field goal.

I think it's more that this thread is dying out. We were discussing Tebow on the NFL thread.

Aside from Tebow having his worst game as a pro -- and it definitely was not pretty, whether it was just rock-bottom or a sign of things to come will be evident in time -- the Broncos got away from the game plan that got them back into contention (and the only reason I personally like the Tebow storyline anyway). Their two worst games have been Detroit and Buffalo when they gave more weight to the idea that he is a pocket/dropback passer. He isn't. He isn't close right now.

Players don't improve their individual skills during the season. Or at least they don't make wholesale changes. What Tebow was in late November is what he's going to be throughout 2011. If they get back to the crazy read-options and not throwing it unless/until they absolutely have to, I think they can resurrect (heh heh) the mojo. But that's in conflict with the question of Tebow as the QB of the future. The best course of action would be for Elway and Fox to completely divorce themselves from the idea of the 2012 season, at least for the time being, and just see how far they can go doing what Tebow does best, but it still seems like they are looking for conclusive answers about the direction of the franchise.

The Chiefs game is what started all the zaniness. That's the game he was 2 for 8 and they won 17-10 with a third-string running back. I expect them to get back to that this weekend.

The Broncos did not abandon the running game, the Bills took the running game away. Do you realize the Broncos' last five possessions of the first half (all but the opening TD drive) were 3-and-outs? And that they threw a grand total of three passes in those 3-and-outs? They could not run on Buffalo because Buffalo was taking away the run and not respecting the pass.

Against Kansas City, that was OK for Denver because they had the lead. Against the Bears it wasn't OK because they fell behind, but they slicked out with a little help. Against Buffalo it was not OK because they fell behind. They did not change their game plan. They HAD to pass. And, of course, they have maybe the worst passer among starters going in the NFL right now, with Gabbert maybe there with him.

Bill Maher has run afoul of religious conservatives yet again, after a Christmas Eve tweet the comedian sent about overtly religious Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. Following a 40-14 Broncos' loss to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, Maher tweeted, "Wow, Jesus just... #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler 'Hey, Buffalo's killing them'. (Adult language has been removed from the Tweet.)

Predictably, the dig from the atheist comedian didn't go over well with Christians. Fox Business' "Follow the Money" host Eric Bolling got things rolling with his Twitter response: "Bill Maher is disgusting vile trash. I can't even repeat what he just tweeted about Tebow..on Christmas Eve. #straighttohellBill."

Others have called for a boycott of HBO, which is the home of Maher's show, "Real Time." This wouldn't be the first time Maher's words have raised the ire of those on the opposite end of the political spectrum. There are regular calls for Maher's ouster from HBO. It happened in July, following a frank discussion of "hate sex" with Republican presidential candidates Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum. And in 2008, following comments about Pope Benedict XVI.

Will taking on Tebow be a bridge too far for Maher? Doubtful — but it is interesting to consider that the "Real Time" host wasn't just taking on an exceedingly popular quarterback; he was also mocking the best-selling religious author of 2011. According to Yahoo! Sports, Tebow's 2011 memoir "Through My Eyes" has 475,000 copies in print, with many more expected to be sold after the season.

Of course, considering Maher made a documentary critical of religion titled, "Religulous," he probably wouldn't have changed a thing.

That Tebow is being discussed by Bill Maher and some guy at Fox Business tells you what's wrong with this whole situation. Tebow is a promising young player, but promising young players don't warrant this kind of pop culture discussion, do they? He gets overpraised and unfairly criticized for where he stands in the NFL.

By the latter, I mean he stunk no worse than, say, a young QB like Blaine Gabbert stinks on a typical NFL weekend. But Gabbert isn't the savior, best-selling religious author. He's just a shaky young QB trying to figure it out.

If you point out to his fans that Tebow is also just a struggling young QB trying to figure it out, you'll get painted as being another Bill Maher. Oh well.

Tim Tebow Finishes Above Dalai Lama In Gallup Poll Of “Most Admired” Men
The polling giant Gallup released its list of the “Most Admired” men and women in America today, and unsurprisingly, President Barack Obama topped the list again in 2011. Other notable names in the mix this year included George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, the Pope, and… wait a second. Is that Tim Tebow?

Apparently so. Tebow finished “only a vote or two” outside the top 10 this year, according to USA Today. Behind the Denver Broncos’ polarizing quarterback was none other than the Dalai Lama.

Tebow won seven of his first eight games as a starter this season, leading the Broncos from the brink of death back into contention for the AFC playoffs. He’s drawn the adoration of millions, the hatred of millions more, and endless debate in the media throughout his whirlwind season at the helm in Denver.

But more admiration than the Dalai Lama? That’s lofty.

Presidents Obama, Bush and Clinton were followed by reverend Billy Graham and billionaire Warren Buffett in the top five
