All-purpose, running Tim Tebow sucks/is a deity thread!

No. Both of those would be your attempts to blatantly misrepresent what I'm saying. No surprise there given the source.

I'm saying that there are those, like YankeeFan in this thread, who think that any attempt to keep Christianity out of anything is somehow an attack on religion. Don't want prayer in schools? You hate Christians! Keep that manger out of the town hall? Bigotry! Sorry, but I don't turn on a football game or watch NFL Network to hear somebody preach. It isn't bigotry to find it annoying.

That is my issue with YankeeFan's comment (and those who agree with him). Somebody says they don't like Tebow's preaching and suddenly that person is a bigot. That's bullshit. Bigotry is to dislike the guy for simply being a Christian. That is a different thing from disliking the guy's actions.

A dislike for the guy simply because he's a Christian is exactly what was expressed. It's a disdain for his belief system. The actions that grow out of that just exacerbate the intolerance.

To borrow a word from OOP, you are misrepresenting my beliefs. I don't dislike him b/c he's Christian. I dislike him b/c he shoves his religion in my face. I would feel that way if he was Catholic, Jewish, Hindu or worshipping the little blue fuzzy thing in the corner.

I'm not going to places of worship and screaming at the people filing in and out. What they do and the fiction they subscribe to in their private lives is a private matter. Don't care what they do, as long as I don't have to hear about it or be exposed to it. I care when someone screams his or her beliefs at me, and that's how I'd describe Tebow. I'm sorry that this is so offensive to you that you feel the need to misrepresent what and how I feel.

    The "fiction they subscribe to"?

Yes. We've had this discussion. I would expect to be arguing these points with YankeeFan or someone else, not you.

Anyone who honestly thinks Tebow is shoving his religion in their face or screaming his beliefs at them is just looking for things to offend them.

I've tried very hard to avoid this part of the debate, but the guy was clearly searching for the cameras during and after a few of these comebacks. Check the video.

Matthew 6:5 -- And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by.

There is a wide gulf between "I hate how he shoves it in my face" and "I'm offended by how he shoves it in my face."

    Words matter, JJ.

Is rooting against Tebow because of his religon any different than rooting for because of his religon?

Why is this concept so difficult? There is a big difference between disliking how he presents his religion, how he shoves it into every conversation, and disliking him for his actual faith. Assuming he is the real deal (and let's face it, most of us may think so, but we really don't know), I respect his faith. I just don't care to hear about it all the time.

Does it make me dislike the guy? Meh. Not really. I don't mind poking fun at some of the worshippers for going over the top and I do think it was entertaining to see most of them go quiet for a few weeks, then suddenly go apeshit after Sunday's game, but I really don't have an issue with him. I'm sure if I had been a fan of any team but the Steelers, Sunday's game would have been a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

Apparently, no sports were played last night. It's a full hour of Tebow on SportsCenter. Time to find something else for background noise.
