All-purpose, running Tim Tebow sucks/is a deity thread!

The argument - at least mine - was never that he deserved "no" credit. It's that he deserved far less than what he got. It's that he was not doing nearly as much as a football player to deserve pop culture icon status or even star NFL quarterback status.

That's not the same - not even close to the same - as giving him "no credit."

And a whole lot of people for those same two months aren't claiming that he's the biggest reason for their success, too?

I am the biggest Tebow guy on here. My take and that side of the debate has been mischaracterized into that, but no, that isn't really what anyone has been saying. He is their best option at quarterback and he has been playing a big role in winning games, has been the point. And that he has improved and may continue to do so. But we have all been pretty agreeable that they're a team built on defense.

There have been many many claims that the Broncos are winning in spite of him, and one legendary opinion that they are not being "honorable."

I agree with your first paragraph. Fox did a great job managing what he had. I don't know if he saw the weak offenses coming on the schedule and intentionally tweaked the approach using Tebow or if he just grew tired of Orton and went with Tebow and it all came together, but he managed the situation well.

Smoke and mirrors. Not sure if Tebow's performance was the smoke or the mirrors. As a fundamentalist Christian, he doesn't smoke, so he's probably the mirrors.

Name one. It certainly wasn't me and I've been on the opposite side of this debate from you.

He's improved? I thought he looked worse in his last three games of the regular season and final game of the postseason than he did when he began. Hell, he can't even throw a consistent spiral.

Yes, I do think the Broncos are winning in spite of him. He's the worst passing quarterback in the league, by a large margin. If not for an above-average defense, and some timely mistakes by opponents, Tebow's performance would have been one of the biggest reasons why they were losing a lot of games, not winning them.

That said, the Broncos capitalized in late-game situations about as well as any team can -- and Tebow is a main reason why, in that regard.

Disparage the guy all you like.
The fact is the man earned himself a full minicamp & season as the starter next year for the Broncos.
    The numbers will improve.
    The completion percentage will stabilize.
You better hope he has A LOT more games like this next year, otherwise he'll find himself in the playoffs again w/you crapping about his completion percentage.

"Disparage the guy all you like," - Again, I'm comparing him to a Super Bowl winning quarterback. That's disparaging? You want me to call him the second coming?
    Evidently.

"The fact is the man earned himself a full minicamp & season as the starter next year for the Broncos." - That's a huge, huge gamble on Denver's part, but you're probably right. My brother who's a Broncos fan living in Littleton is praying that's not the case.

"The numbers will improve." - In some aspects they will, in others, probably not.

"The completion percentage will stabilize." - It was pretty stable throughout the year. He completed less than 50 percent pretty much start to finish. The current NFL average is 60 percent.

"You better hope he has A LOT more games like this next year, otherwise he'll find himself in the playoffs again w/you crapping about his completion percentage." - I hope the kid does well, but he won't if he plays like he did this year. The chances of things lining up for him the way they did this year - from Marion Barber running out of bounds to Rothliesberger hobbling around like Billy Kilmer to starting 11 regular-season games with only two being against playoff teams (and they were 0-2 and outscored by 26.5 points per game in those two) - are probably pretty slim.

It's interesting. They played four games against playoff teams with Tebow at quarterback, including the playoffs. In those games they were 1-3 and were outscored by an average of 20.5 points per game.

Under Orton, they were 1-1 against playoff teams and Orton also beat Denver as the Chiefs QB, so he was 2-1 against playoff teams with an average margin of minus-6.3 in those games. But he was winless against non-playoff teams (0-4).

Perhaps Tebow manages games better to keep you from self-destructing against bad teams, but Orton gives you a little better chance to make plays down the field with the passing games, which you need to beat better teams. Hard to say. Tebow's lack of ability to make plays in the passing game and move the chains dooms them to blowouts against good teams with good offenses. But against poor offenses, the fact that he doesn't throw interceptions allows them to play field position and wait for the other team to self-destruct.

And I stand by that, smartass. I think running a high school offense at the elite level is debasing. They changed the entire scheme for one guy, because he couldn't play the same caliber of football that everyone else could play. Was that fair to the rest of the personnel on that team?

How wonderful it was to have faith in God and Christlike strenth be the topic of conversation in the nation instead of the stupid crap we have to digest every day.
    Thanks Tim, believers had fun.
And for the majority of haters for whatever reason?
Time to talk football- remember most of your teams with "great" QBs didn't make it this far.

Given that it got them to the divisional round of the playoffs, yes, it was absolutely fair to them. That's what good coaching is. You take the personnel you have and give them the best opportunity to win. Denver's best chance this year was with Tebow running that unconventional offense. I don't think it is a long-term answer, but it worked in the sense that it got the Broncos farther than they had any business going based on their talent.
