All-purpose, running Tim Tebow sucks/is a deity thread!

I think John Fox's philosophy of offense is too amphibian to use him any differently. Along with Tebow's obvious skill limitations.

This is not going to end well for Tebow, the Broncos or any of his panty-soaked adherents.

I could see a scenario where Tebow is catching a touchdown pass from (well, not Matt Flynn, I don't think that's going to happen) some free agent QB pick up in a January, 2014 playoff game.

In this scenario, Tebow will move to tight end, which is a position that is becoming the "rage" in the NFL right now with many of its best being guys who weren't always football first, much less tight-end first (Gates, Graham). Everybody's going to the "matchup nightmare" that a good, versatile TE brings.

Personally, I'd love to have Gronkowski and Hernandez as part of my base offense. It's a problem for defensive coordinators who like to match personnel because you don't know what they are going to do. Do you put coverage specialists in the game to cover them? If they do, what if they line up two tights and power you? If you try bigger safeties or linebackers, what if they both go out wide and put you in a matchup? What if they lineup with two backs with one of them back there.

I love the versatility of the multi-threat tight end. With his ability to run with the ball, to throw the ball (relative to non-QBs) and with the physicality he likes to play with, I bet Tebow would thrive playing that position.

Quite a few people assume that, but I wouldn't be so sure until we see it. He may be strong for a quarterback, but not so much for a tight end. I don't see him being close to Gronkowski's level.

Yeah, Tebow seems to be at maximum size/strength for his frame and Gronk still outweighs him by 30 pounds. Even Hernandez is 15 pounds heavier. He would have a very tough time as a tight end.

Position switch sounds interesting, there are all sorts of hybrids and gimmicks, but I really think it's QB or nothing.

Now, let's be realistic. Gronkowski just had the most prolific pass-catching season (edit to add) BY A TIGHT END (notable distinction) in NFL history, so to use his measureables as the baseline requirements for the position is a bit unfair.

You look at the other tight end, Aaron Hernandez, who's 6-1, 245. He's a quality NFL tight end, but he's shorter than Tebow and I bet if Tebow spent an off season preparing to play tight end, he would be 245. His frame can easily handle 245. I'd also bet he'd improve his 4.71 combine 40. Gronkowski ran a 4.69 (I read he ran 4.68 at his Pro Day). But Tebow went to the combine as a QB. His preparation for the draft was largely to throw the ball. If that part of his game went by the wayside and the emphasis was strictly on being bigger, stronger, faster, I bet he could check into camp at 245-248 and with a 4.65 40-yard dash time.

That's plenty big and strong enough to be a top-tier tight end.

So you're discounting any possibility, after he's made 16-17 NFL starts, that he will ever get better?

You don't see a guy who's never played the position being close to the level of the best tight end in the game? Why not?

Let's analyze the last three sentences of the above exchange:

"And there was very little evidence this year that Tebow can become an effective conventional QB. It's possible, but unlikely."

    Followed by:

"So you're discounting any possibility, after he's made 16-17 NFL starts, that he will ever get better?"

Uhm...did you not read what had just been typed?

I agree that they'll give him the season, but I doubt he stays upright that long.

Well, you appear to be discounting it. Let me ask you this: if the Broncos stuck with Tebow, didn't change the offense one iota, but he works on his accuracy, improved and got to the NFL average completiong percentage of above, would that be okay with you?

Not me. Tebow improving to a league-average passer would be worse than Puppy AIDS.
