Brock Lesnar is a legitimate beast, no question about it. Remember, he made the Vikings practice squad for a short period of time after not having played any college football, I believe, and many of the players had respect for his athletic talents and work ethic.

As any follower of MMA can tell you, many wrestlers (legit wrestlers, no WWE 'fake' guys) make the transition to MMA. Brock is young enough and talented enough to do it, with the proper submission/submission defense/striking tutoring.

I wonder how much of a striker he can become. Rulon Gardner did well in his only MMA match.

The guy who always intrigued me was Kurt Angle. He actually beat Lesnar in an impromptu 'real' wrestling match held for fun before a WWE event a couple years ago. He's probably too beat up and down and out now to do it, but in his prime he could have been something.

Great question about Lesnar's striking, SD. I wonder about that as well. If he gets good, man, he could kick ass.

As far as Angle goes, I'm with you. If you look at the "professional wrestling" thread in the "Anything Goes" section, you'll see I brought up Angle going to MMA in the last page or two, and was basically told he would get his ass kicked. Maybe, but I would LOVE to see him do MMA. He wants to do it, and I think he will do it soon. Can't wait! :)

Keep an eye out for UFC coverage on ESPN. Word is they had several meetings after Dec. 30th's Liddell-Ortiz II and decided they can't ignore it any longer. Word is, beginning with the March 3rd event in Columbus, Ohio, they'll begin showing highlights of big events on SportsCenter.
And, before anyone asks, no, I don't have a link. If you wanna doubt, feel free.
I'll find out for sure along with the rest of the viewers in a few weeks.

Also, one thing I see a lot that needs to be cleared up: UFC is not a sport. UFC is an organization within the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

From a recent radio interview with Kurt Angle...

It's a shame that he's only getting involved now. It will be interesting but I have no idea how he'll do. If he got involved in the late nineties I think he would have been incredible. I mean, his athleticism, drive and passion are frightening. Nowadays though he's half crippled from pro-wrestling. He has also been seeming legitimately insane for the past few months When the WWE dump one of their top guys because they are worried about him dying on their watch it it speaks volumes.

Kurt Angle wouldn't last a minute with a top MMA fighter. He's what, 40? He has a history of neck, back, and knee injuries, he hasn't wrestled competitively in a decade and he's never competed in any sport with striking. He could make big money as a one-time novelty deal against another novice, but any of the top heavyweights or even any mid-level competent fighter would wipe the mat with him at this stage. Lesnar's a different case because he's a decade younger, isn't as banged up, and has been training full-time for months.

This is probably all true. Kurt's at least 37.

Brock Lesnar would add credibility among legitimate wrestling people.

The guy was an absolute monster in college.

Of course, it might lose credibility with the average person who only knows him from the WWE.

    Who knows?

Does the UFC do drug-testing i.e. steroids? I assume so since it's sanctioned by state boxing commissions in many places.

The UFC doesn't. The testing is done by the commission. For instance when the UFC run Vegas the Nevada State Athletic Commission does the testing.

Tomorrow, when I'm more sober, I will post further on the Lee Murray story. Put it this way, the Lee Murray story will be a movie some day. His story involves showing tons of heart and going the distance with Anderson Silva in an MMA fight and, also, beating the shit the out of Tito Ortiz in a street fight.

There was also the 100 million dollar robbery...
