Actually, Big John was working as the outside official, checking the fighters before they entered the cage. Then the black ref with the dreadlocks (Herb Dean) was working inside the cage.

Those two being there made me stop and watch the bout. Otherwise, I'd have probably flipped on past it while thinking it was some rinky-dink promotion.

Oh, well, then I guess everyone pretty much works everywhere. My bad.

No biggie, I wasn't trying to one up you or anything. As I said, if it wasn't for McCarthy and Dean being there, I'd probably have not watched Faber's fight.

No, it's cool. The WEC is a nice little up-and-coming promotion (also recently purchased by the UFC owners). They do a good job focusing on the 145- and 155-pound fighters.
The more MMA talk around here the better. I've become a big fan in recent years.

  5. WEC is the promotion to check out if you're curious about MMA and don't want to spend money on pay per view. The action is faster in general with the little guys, and they're in a cage with a smaller surface (25 x 25 as opposed to UFC's 30 x 30), so there isn't much stalling.

Faber Vs Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto is a truly a mouth watering fight. It's really the fight at 145lbs in some respects. Kid has fought a much better class of opposition. He's also spent most of his career at 155 lbs despite his natural weight class being 145 lbs. That said though I do believe that Faber is the real deal and that is what makes the fight so appealing.

It will never happen though. Kid is under a K-1 contract and he is far too big a star in Japan for any US based promotion to lure him over.

    For those unfamiliar with Yamamoto...

    His Wiki entry...

    A good highlight video...

I'm going to the Kimbo Slice vs Ray Mercer fight this weekend in Atlantic City. That fight is headlining and there are about 7 others. Kimbo is finally going to fight someone in his own skill level.

The hype video for the main event, which is the grudge match between Frank Shamrock Vs Phil Baroni, of the Elite XC PPV this Friday. Elite XC is owned by Showtime and Gary Shaw, who promoted Lewis-Tyson.

I should note that in the hype video Phil Baroni talks like he normally does. This basically means that he uses the word fuck like it's punctuation.

The words "skill" and "Kimbo" should never be used together ... never ever.
I hope Mercer knocks him through the mat.

I think it's either going to be a quick knockout or it's going to go the full distance. Kimbo is a street fighter, so we'll see how that goes into the ring. One shot on Mercer and he will be out, but it goes the same way for Kimbo. "Skill" maybe a bad word to use in that situation. Let's try scare level. That works. Maybe not. I am excited to see the bout. Should be fun.
