I agree. I don't really like UFC"s pre-fight hype routine where they interview each guy. And inevitably each guy predicts a first-round KO and plenty of pain. Then they show the shots of the guys shadow-boxing in the mist. Then they cut to the locker room where they're working the mitts. That's why I TiVO every UFC event and just watch them later so I can fast-forward through the trash-talking and get straight to the fights.

As for Pride, I thought their broadcasts were more about the fights and less about the hype. But one thing I hated is how they'd switch from the fight to shots of the crowd, then when they'd go back the fighters were on the ground. I didn't like missing any of the fight. But I guess at dull moments, they felt it was best to go away from the action.

Watching Pride I always got a little uncomfortable with the elaborate ritual before the fight card began ... a bunch of guys with gongs and people dancing all over the place. Very awkward.

Spike TV have put the first eight minutes of the first episode of the upcoming TUF 10 (which features Kimbo Slice as a cast member) on their website as a preview.

I cannot believe that I'm actually looking forward to a season of TUF and it’s 2009.

Thanks for the link. I like how Dana made Kimbo seem like the star of the show, which I'm guessing Spike is banking on happening. Dana just better hope Kimbo don't get tapped in the first fight.

But looking at the cast they've assembled, I think they'll pretty much be able to set it up to where Kimbo will at least get to the semifinals.

I had a strange feeling that the Rampage-Rashad rivalry was made for TV. I still maintain that Dana and the UFC are trying to reach out to the young, black, male demographic with this TUF. You have two black coaches, one black street fighter legend type, and a couple of other black fighters on the show. It's not a bad thing, but you can kind of see it for what it is. It's certainly not about setting up the best fight.

Rashad and Rampage never had any beef before they announced the whole TUF 10 show. And if you watched the first week of TUF, it looked like a lot of the "trash talk" was forced.

Kinda sucks for Spike now, because I'm sure their entire show was edited around the Rashad-Rampage rivalry, with Kimbo as the side attraction.

Sakuraba seems like he won't stop fighting till he, one day, literally dies in the ring.

He's been added to Dream 11. His opponent is Rubin Williams a pro boxer who back on March 5, 2005 fought a (pre Calzaghe ruined) Jeff Lacy for the IBF super middleweight title. That night he got stopped in seven.

Williams was 26-1 when he fought Lacy. He's now thirty-three years, has a record of 29-8-1 and has lost his last six boxing bouts.

I had hoped that Sakuraba might retire after Melvin Manhoef beat the ever-loving shit out of him last summer. Of course he then popped up on New Years Eve.

The decision in the Machida/Rua fight was horrible.

It was horrible. Strategy-wise, Rua fought an almost perfect fight, and Machida was able to accomplished nothing against him. If anything, maybe Rua was too cautious and should have taken more chances. But Machida was so passive that I don't think it's fair to penalize Rua for not being overaggressive against a guy who's known for his counters.

BS decision, and judging from the 3-4 fights I saw, not a good night in general for the UFC.
