Great ending to Emelianenko-Rogers tonight. That straight right Fedor threw to end it was about as perfect as it gets. Seemed to me Rogers, despite being much bigger, was a little intimidated. Seemed that Fedor stalked him whenever they were both standing.

Just got home from covering a basketball exhibition and flipped on the TV.

When I left before the game I had it on CBS watching 'Bama-LSU so when I got home, some MMA fight was on. I left it on while I settled in. Then sat down and watched some dude I've never heard of...

    Get Knocked the F&%$ OUT!

Kinda cool. Best punch I've seen in years... not that I've seen a lot. But I may check out the next free fight.

    Now its back on football.

PS: Loved seeing all the blood from oozing from the nose of the dude who won.

Lesnar, when healthy of course, would pummel Fedor. I was not impressed.

You were not impressed by a guy who had his nose broken in the opening seconds of the fight, then proceeded to pretty much dominate a guy that was much bigger (roughly Lesnar's size)? Fedor has proven a lot more than Lesnar. This ain't the WWE.

Nope. And if you've seen Lesnar fight, you'd know he isn't treating his fights like they're WWE. Lesnar would pwn Fedor.

Fedor is a shrimp. Lesnar would either A) knock him out or B) jump on him and dominate him.

I mean, if a simple jab from Rogers breaks his nose, a hard right from Lesnar would knock his face off.

Brock Lesnar is a big name and people talk about him a lot. So weird you think he's the best thing since sliced bread. Normally you put more thought into picking your favorite athletes.

As for Fedor being a shrimp, he stalked a much bigger Rogers through tonight's fight. Fedor has been kicking ass all over the world for years. He would not be intimidated by Lesnar, who might beat him, but it's certainly not the foregone conclusion you make it out to be. And Lesnar is getting a lot of grief for backing out of his fight with Shane Carwin.

I'm not saying Lesnar is the best thing since whatever...just that he'd own Fedor. I just wasn't impressed with him tonight against Rogers, who, let's admit it, is not a great fighter by any standard. Lesnar is so much more legit than Rogers. Not even close.

Lesnar has mono. He can't even train, much less fight. Carwin should be thankful. That dude's a joke.

How is he a joke? Please explian with all the MMA knowledge you seemingly have.

In any kind of top-level professional fighting, you can't simply say so-and-so will beat so-and-so. Lesnar is being hyped as the this great fighter, but what are his huge wins in MMA so far that make you think he's invincible? Obviously he's got potential, but it's way too early to say he'd simply run over anyone you put in front of him.

Sure, I can. I think Lesnar would beat Fedor. See how easy that was? :)

I like Lesnar. I like the way he fights. But I've seen Fedor too many times to say Lesnar would pwn him right now. He might, but he also might get schooled by Fedor.

Fedor got rocked very early in his fight against Rogers and got thrown off his game a little bit. Yet, he never stopped coming forward and had Rogers rocked a couple of times during the first round.

I'm not convinced Fedor is the greatest MMA guy out there like a lot of people. But I think right now, he'd beat Lesnar. In a year from now, probably not.

There’s a book called a Fighter’s Heart in which a Harvard graduate named Sam Sheridan basically get lost in the combat sports. He has a muay-thai fight in Thailand. He trains at Pat Miletich’s gym and has an MMA fight. He hangs out with Olympic gold medallist and current undefeated, though that might change as he’s fighting Mikkel Kessler next, pro-boxer Andre Ward.

Sheridan also hangs out with Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira. He’s actually part of Nogueira’s entourage when he goes to Japan for the third Fedor fight. One of the things he mentions, and he really was the first person I heard mention this, was when you see him up close it’s striking how fast Fedor is. When Fedor fought Sylvia last summer a number of American journalists who were covering the fight and seeing Fedor live for the first time mentioned the same thing.

Fedor’s very skilled but a lot of what he does is based on speed. Most of the time he’s faster than the other guy. For instance, his striking works because of that speed. There’s a young Russian fighter called Kirill Sidelnikov. He one of Fedor’s training partners and his nickname is Baby Fedor. It really is a terrible choice of nickname. Nickname yourself Baby Fedor and you’re going to be compared to Fedor. That comparison probably won’t be favourable. Watching him fight is interesting though. He does actually fight like Fedor. Thing is he’s not Fedor. It’s very illuminating watching someone without Fedor’s physical gifts try to fight like him. As skilled as Fedor his style works because of his gifts. He’s now thirty-three years old. Those gifts are going to start to erode, probably, pretty soon. Nothing lasts forever, and I think his win streak will probably come to an end within the next two years.

As far as the Roger’s, well, fight Fedor, like always, found a way to win. Rogers did well but in the end Fedor’s superior skills won out. What this win means in the grand scheme of things will probably become evident in the future. We really don’t know how good or bad Brett Rogers is. He hits hard. Arlovski is a top ten fighter. He also has no chin. If you can hit hard and you catch Arlovski he’s going out. Aside from Arlovski there aren’t really any names on Roger’s record. He didn’t look bad here, and he might be very good. It will be interesting to see how he does against other top fighters.

As far as the UFC goes, I can see that debate going way. There's a possibility that within the next year Nogueira's going to win the heavyweight title. If that does happen then, well, him and Fedor have fought three times already.

The punch that put Rogers' down was loud.
