    Eh, we needed a new one anyway. Or maybe the old one just needed new batteries. Whatever. It has its own friggin' screen!!

    At least for me, remotes are like sunglasses. If I have a nice one, I lose it. If I go cheap-ass it stays around forever.

    So this is how it turned out in the conversation this morning before we ran errands:

    Me: Why don't I come sit next to you a while? In fact, put your feet up and I'll rub them.

    Her: They might stink.

    Me: That's OK. Oh, and I have good news for you too.

    Her (in a dreading, less-than-pleased tone): What did you buy from Woot?

    Me: A new remote control.

    Her (brightening): Oh, for the TV in the back? (The remote for the TV in our bedroom is on the fritz.)

    Me: For everything. See, it comes with a USB connector that you hook up to the computer and you can download the right stuff for whatever you have.

    Her: How much?

    Me: $85, but it's refurbished.

    Her (eyes wider than they should be for mid-morning): (silence)

    Me: We won't ever have to buy a remote again!

    Her: No more Woot, OK?

    I would describe her as skeptical and definitely unimpressed. This remote had better not suck.

    Buy her one of the Woot t-shirts and all will be well.
    That's all I got from the recent frenzy of activity.

    If there was a Woot off today, I could buy whatever I wanted without scruntiny. The Queen is reading The New Book and nothing else exists in the world. I could be hot and heavy on the couch next to her and she wouldn't notice.
