I'm pretty sure the town they shot in, at least the yellow train depot area, is fairly close to Athens, maybe in or near Danielsville. I went by that depot a bunch of times as a kid.

From a quote in an interview with the ever-evasive Kirkman, he said the town was "a 4 or 5 hours drive maximum" away. Added he's not real concerned with "details." Notice, though, that it never got dark, despite how long they stayed. And where do they get gas for all this driving around?

Anyway, the episode's writer is the new show runner for next year, maybe things will look up.

Yeah, in saying it was a bottle episode, that shouldn't be taken as a pejorative. Bottle episodes can be really good. Many of the critiques I saw of this show described it as a good example of a bottle episode.

That said, I didn't love it as much as some of you did. It was good to get Rick's character out of this stasis he's been in and move him along. It was good to give Michonne a different dimension. And I didn't watch Season 1, so obviously, the resonance of the Morgan character was something I missed out on.

Some of it was pretty slow, though, and I'm not one who normally minds slow. On the other hand, it was nice not to be jumping around to 10 different sub-plots too.

Missing out on the importance of Morgan takes a huge bite out of the impact of the episode. You didn't see how lost Rick was when Morgan and his son found him or the bond the two formed, which was based at least in part of being fathers who are deeply concerned for their sons.

Also, I think Morgan's story about what happened to his son has a lot more impact if you had gotten to know the son as a character in that episode and seen him trying to bring himself to put down his wife, who had been turned.

As viewers, we were learning answers to questions we had from that first episode just as Rick was learning them.

I stopped flipping channels last night and actually watched a few minutes of the post-show 'Talking Dead.' Mostly I watched because I like to look at Aisha Tyler.

But when I hear people discuss how much they enjoy 'The Walking Dead,' it makes me want to watch the show; however, I have now tried to watch the first episose three times now, and it has bored the crap out of me every time. I tried to watch it when it first aired, and I have tried twice since then. I have fallen asleep each time.

It's very frustrating. If I ever meet Aisha Tyler, it would nice to have a ready-made conversation.

"Woodbury" is a real town being used for shooting. It is not a fake set. The setting last night looked more like some abandoned small town to me, just a few buildings out in the middle of nowhere, not a full town like the overhead map Carl found on the wall or a real town like where Woodbury is shot.

The map said most of the houses in Rick's hometown had been burned down or overrun. I forget what exactly the map said, but it was something along those lines.

If you haven't watched any of Season 1, especially the stuff with Rick and Morgan, then last night's episode wasn't geared toward you. Since you don't know any of their history, this episode probably doesn't mean as much to you as it would to someone - like a lot of us on this thread -- who has watched all the episodes.

Why haven't you watched the pilot? The pilot might be the other best episode the show has done.

Yes, that is a good portent indeed, as it's a bit worrying that this show is going to be on its (third? fourth?) show runner.

Having watched the pilot, and knowing the background from the first season, I think Sunday's episode was the best of the series. Definitely the best this season. If someone watching hasn't seen season one, though, it probably didn't hit home as much.

Not gonna lie, I was shaken up by the monologue after things cooled down in that safe house. Hopefully that doesn't give too much away for those who haven't seen it.

Also, I really like what I saw from Michonne in this episode. She's finally looking like a character, not an "I'm pissed all the time, now watch me scowl" figure. Seeing some depth to her is refreshing.
