By that thinking, Lori's death would fit more into impacting the established dynamic by driving Rick over the edge.

I'm sure somebody will whine about me bringing it up, but I think some of these deaths are used to define the show as different from the comic. That is the case with Lori and Dale.

I included her in two categories. My point is this: It wouldn't fit the show at all to kill off the pseudo-scientist at this point. They have given him redemptive, specific qualities but kept him on the wrong side so far. That means he will switch sides. The show is built around its supposed good guys too much to allow us to like a bad guy for very long or to have them kill a sincerely good person.

There is the chance that he switches sides with Andrea, helps our group uncover an important facet in beating Woodbury, then is killed by the Governor in his last stand, after all his muscle is taken out and his defenses are knocked over. That could be the Governor's sign off, killing the only person he seemed to trust for most of his run on this show. I'm really hoping the Governor's last big kill will be Andrea, though. I much prefer the nerd to the bitch.

When the Gov's henchman opened up to Darryl about his wife being bitten, I figured, he's gonna die by the end of this episode. Was disappointed. That's been the pattern for minor characters.

I don't see how anyone, other than the scientist dude, surviving from Woodberry. Rick's group can't take care of all those people, nor would they want to. I see the prison group getting to pillage everything and move on, leaving any survivors on their own to die like the hitchhiker.

I think that was the purpose of the hitchhiker, actually. That sets up what they're going to have to do when the win the war against Woodbury. There are too many weak, untested people. Even Beth proved she can be handy in this last episode.

I think the bigger question is whether or not they actually do kill the Governor off.
I mean, I think at this point he's got to survive this season. They need to have SOME kind of storyline carry over from one year to the next or this show is going to get really boring and predictable, really fast.
I would love for the battle to come down to the people of Woodbury vs. Rick's gang and have Rick's gang on the verge of winning when the Governor cuts out and bails. Rick's gang is then left fighting a group of largely weak opponents and, in a true test, could show mercy but slaughters them all anyway.
That sets up a nice fourth season arc where you know the Governor is still out there and you can give Rick's group some much needed time to rebuild life inside their prison walls during the break.
Maybe Glen and Magi get married, have a baby, life seems good and then, when the fourth season starts, the Governor comes back for blood.
    Just a thought.

Does no one know that the guy's names are Martinez and Milton? It's only been said like a dozen times on the show. :)

Even the actress who plays Maggy called the scientist dude "Dallas" on the "Talking Dead" show that followed this week's episode, which is the actor's actual name (Dallas Roberts), rather than "Milton."

But a lot of folks I know call him "Smithers."

I would think Milton would be killed off, but "Maggie" said on The Talking Dead that she and Dallas hadn't had a conversation "yet," and then she kind of motioned to cover her mouth with an oops look on her face. Either it happens soon or he lives long enough to switch over.
I'm thinking Andrea gets killed in her attempt to kill the Gov. I also think Herschell is about to die for some reason. On the other hand, they could be showing previews to make us THINK Milton would switch over.
I still have thoughts that maybe Merle was planted at the prison by the Gov., but maybe not. Same thing if Andrea goes over there. That's why I'm thinking maybe Milton doesn't really switch sides, because he has pretended to be open to Andrea since the Gov. told him to watch her closely for him.
Unlike some of you, I think this show is different BECAUSE the deaths aren't predictable. Two of the three main characters - featured prominently in the opening credits - were killed off already, Shane and Lori. Dale was killed off suddenly. And the older prisoner (admittedly not a main character, but seemingly headed at least in that direction) was killed in the middle of a conversation with Carol. I think the only "safe" character at this point is Rick.

No way Merle was planted at the prison. The little fight to the death vs. his brother kind of explains that away.

Can't see them killing off Darryl, unless Norman Reedus' career takes off to the point where he needs to get out of the series for other opportunities.

I think we're stuck with Carl, too.

Stuck with Carl? He's probably been one of the best characters this season.
And given how shitty he was last year, I can't believe I'm saying that.

Milton is growing on me faster than a Dixon Brother. I love me some nerd, I hope he stays.

I can see Hershel, Beth and or the baby catching it by the end of the season. If Phillip stays, I wonder who Tyrese sides with, since he's ratting out Andrea next week. Rick, Daryl, Carl, Maggie and Glen are your core characters. I think Merle stays, side-switcher or not because he causes drama with or without Phillip. Carol or Andrea may have to stay just because they need at least one or two females and Michonne doesn't say enough (read: Isn't really feminine enough. At all. Ever.).
