I just finished this week's episode. God damn, that was a seriously intense hour of television.
There was a brief, brief moment there when Rick and Carl were mowing down zombies that Rick just kind of stared at Carl and I think that's the incredible thing about this series. It was just a brief look and yet it said so damn much about those characters and was incredibly impactful.
I wouldn't put this episode at the top of the series' all time episodes but it was without question the best episode of this season. Now I hope we can move on from this illness thing and really get to the meat of this season's most interesting battle, between the Governor and the gang.
I've got to wonder though, how long until the midseason break? It's got to be coming up I'd imagine.

Three more eps (final one will air Dec. 1) and then they are off til Feb.

Alright so then I'm guessing next week is a standalone Governor episode to bring us up to speed on what he's been up to, then the week after is the set-up to the midseason finale and then the week after that shit gets crazy. Awesome. :)

Read an interview yesterday with Scott Gimple, this season's showrunner. He said they're going to do some flashbacks during this week's show, which should be very good.

I'd have to imagine that next week will be devoted to the Governor, and we'll get the Rick/Daryl confrontation in the episode after that.

Good God, that might be one of my favorite episodes of the series thus far. Seriously. I loved, loved, loved that episode.
I know it was slow and some of my friends think it was dull because of that but I thought it was brilliant, risky and incredibly well-done.
Just to watch a man that broken, that numb that he didn't even flinch when faced with a walker coming his way by the fire, with nothing to live for transform into someone who would do anything for that child was awesome.
That it's also the show's most evil, vile character is a bold move.
I just love the dimensions they added to the Governor tonight. It's a perfect move for a show trying to portray the fact that there really isn't a black and white in this world, all just shades of grey.
    Awesome episode.

I also enjoyed it, though honestly, I don't see any of it as a shocking turn for the Governor. That's kind of been the idea from the start, that he was a good man at some point, but he just got progressively worse after losing his family.

No, I agree but you don't often see a show turn a character THAT evil and then try to redeem him/change his personality/make him more complex after that turn.
I guess it might be more that I was expecting to see the Governor we saw at the end of last season. I figured it was him feeding the walkers and that his intention when we saw him at the end of last week's episode was to go and kill everyone in the prison.
This week's episode really enhances the character that could have easily been a one-dimensional villain and turns him into something much more than that and really shows the layers beneath a person.
This late into a series, to still be taking those kind of chances? Quite impressive in my book.

I guess I still approach it with a comic book sensibility and there is a long history in comics of taking very basic villains and developing them into something more complex.

I'm glad to see folks here liked this episode as well. A lot of my friends hated it.

I think that's part of what I really liked here because, without going into detail about the source that shall not be named, this character development for the Governor is completely original to how he portrayed in other means and was, honestly, refreshing.
Too many times on shows like this, you get a one-dimensional villain who you know is evil simply because of his actions and/or words. The Governor's actions in this show thus far have been awful but because of the depth provided, you see more than the black and white of a good or evil man.
I hope they continue on this path with him but I'll be interested to see how things develop/change when his past and present selves collide.

I dug it. He's a more compelling character than some of the others, so that helps.
