They should have picked up this week, not gotten slower.

Bubbler is wrong. They do know where they are going. They do know where they want to go. The problem is they are putzing around far too much on the way there.

Comics or no comics, there are a wealth of interesting stories.
They just refuse to get on with them.

Very frustrating because I have enjoyed the show.
Honestly, if the other person in the house didn't love the show so much, I'd give up on it.

What's finally done it for me with The Walking Dead is when these three random people showed up at the end of the "Glenn wakes up" episode and everyone on The Talking Dead was all excited "It's Abraham It's Abraham." I'm like who? What? It's just a tease to keep viewers watching, that something better is now to come, otherwise more probably would have turned it off by now.

I haven't read the comics. I don't want to read the comics. I've been watching the TV show. I don't want to find out things I'm supposed to be excited about when it hasn't been revealed on the TV show. And so far. Meh. This season has been all over the place with a big lack of continuity.

I don't think there's been a lack of continuity - everything seems to be flowing together just fine - but it has definitely been slow.

I enjoyed this week's episode. The point wasn't to show the viewers Daryl's transformation, it was to show his realization that it's OK to become more than he was. His loyalty to his brother had long kept him from striving to be better and this week was about him finally letting go of that, which I presume will allow his character continued growth.

That said, if you look at the TNT series Falling Skies, it covers a lot of the same territory as the Walking Dead, but keeps the pace much more brisk. I'm worried the Walking Dead is suffering the same trouble Lost suffered around Season 3, when it was a huge success and the writers didn't know how long they'd have to keep the story going.

I love character development and I think this show is about more than just killing zombies, but at some point, a plot needs to emerge. It can't just remain character studies with gore. The story needs to move forward.

Agreed on most of that, though I can't say about the comparison to Falling Skies because I've only seen a few episodes of that one.

There is always an element of criticizing this show no matter what they do on this thread. There is no character development. Then they focus on character development for a few episodes, so people complain about that, too.

That said, this one was just way too damn slow. There were a few moments I enjoyed and I agree with what you are saying about Darryl. As I wrote earlier, I really liked the part where he finally admitted that he was blaming himself for not hunting the Governor down before he could rally another group to attack them. But it just wasn't enough.

Agreed. Hell, Darryl didn't say a word for the first 15 minutes of this episode.

As you said, it would have worked better if they cut between two or more of the disparate groups/pairs. I get that the writers are really showing the isolation each group is feeling, not knowing if anyone else has survived, but four episodes of this has gotten tedious. It's definitely time they all reunite - presumably at Terminus, which I'm interested to see - or at least split the episodes between multiple groups.

Also, there's no way Beth is standing if she had never drank before and is spending all day drinking Moonshine.

I'm not going back through 100 pages, but I don't recall anyone complaining about lack of character development. I might have missed it, though. I didn't start watching the show until Season 3 was on in real time, and I didn't start looking at this thread until this season.

Some of the characters are more interesting than others or more fully realized, but the consistent problem the show has this season is lack of forward momentum for the story.

You don't have to shut the story down to 'examine' character.

I've tried to give it leeway because I've enjoyed it. I can forgive a bad episode here or there.
But this is has gotten old.

I told my friend the other day that this episode was probably the worst I've seen in a while.

Just a lot of stupidity in it.

The biggest being wasting a potential fuel source (alcohol), lighting a fire at night in the woods (zombies are attracted to fire) and the fact that anyone drinking moonshine for their first ever alcoholic drink was still upright and drinking it after 20 minutes.

I can forgive those things. What I STILL can't forgive is that there wasn't a set meet-up place. You would think they would have had a house or something per-arranged as the designation when all shit goes down. But nope. Must have slipped their minds.

they tried to gloss over that during the talk show by saying they had a zombie plan but not a tank-attack plan.
I don't buy it. They knew the governor was out there, and the prison was intended as much for protection from bad people as it was from zombies.

In that moment of pure chaos, I can see where a mix-up would happen. Not trying to excuse the writing or anything like that, but I can see why it would happen.
