I'm not sure how the disease vector unfolds, but I'm sure someone has mapped it out in detail.

People turns as a result of bites, so once the public is aware of what is happening the spread would slow with regard to zombie-to-human transfer.

However, it is also airborne. You turn after death regardless of whether you've been bitten.

About 6,000 people die per day, so that's 6,000 new zombies per day without biting, which is about 2 million per year, until people realize that reanimation occurs without bites and start taking necessary precautions.

I would think that by the end of the first year the spread would have largely slowed.

Robert Kirkman has stated...multiple times...that he doesn't give a shit about the backstory of how the zombies happened.
The rise of zombies is nothing more than a plot device to begin the show.
Why hurt your head trying to comprehend something that even the creator of the damn books and TV show doesn't give a shit about?
There are zombies roaming the earth...people are trying to survive. This is their story. Nothing more, nothing less.

I don't have to like Robert Kirkman's reasoning or lack of reasoning.

Some more info would be nice because the characters know how it all went down. As a viewer, I'd like to know what the characters know.

I don't expect the characters to have complete understanding of zombie behavior.
But they should have some understanding of events that unfolded.

They also seem to have limited knowledge of their state.
I'm no sheriff's deputy, but I know where a half doze or more prisons are located within three-four hours of my home.

Didn't they say in the CDC episode that they had been in contact with folks in France?

Been a long time since I've watched that episode, but I thought the CDC guy indicated that what was happening in Georgia was happening around the globe.

I'm figuring once they quit d#cking around and get to Terminus we'll learn something from the mustache-Army guy and the mullet-scientist guy.

After last week, that moment needed to happen.

Nice episode tonight. Liked the way they showed the different groups. The entrance to Terminus was a little weird. I have a feeling it's not the sanctuary it's cracked up to be.

Every zombie story has different "rules" and origins about the zombies -- Romero's are slightly different than the modern "... Of the Dead" series, which are different than the zombies/infected in "28 Days Later," which are different than the "Walking Dead" zombies, and so on -- but I've always looked at this series as a cousin of Max Brooks' zombies in "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z."
The way the zombies seem to move and function is pretty close to Brooks' descriptions. If Kirkman wasn't ripping him off directly, he certainly seems to have been influenced. The entirety of "The Walking Dead" feels like it could be in the same universe as "World War Z," and maybe even a chapter in that book or a sequel.

All of that is to say, there are very plausible reasons for why the military would've been overrun by the zombies, how the virus would've quickly spread worldwide, and why the governments are seemingly absent.

Terminus seems like a honey trap. The name is a little too on the nose.

Given the tone of the series, I have to agree, Dan. Either that, or the various groups all coming together there will fuck things up.

My guess is that whatever is Ominous about Terminus, it will reveal itself in what's happened with Beth. Or did she just take off for the day with Ferris Bueller in the back of that sedan?

Any chance that's where Beth is? I thought Daryl's new group was behind that, but it doesn't look like that's the case now.
