In fairness, I think the timejumps and black and white were necessary for this episode.
If you think strictly about the linear progression of this episode, if they had presented it without the timejumps, it would have been boring as shit.
    Seriously.
The first 40 minutes would have been nothing but talking and the last 40 would have lost their impact because the entire plan would have seemed convoluted. By starting with the quarry issue, they pique your interest and then show how things happened and why things happened.
    I really liked it.
As for solving the problem "less dangerously," my only issue with it is that they planned to move this giant herd 20 miles and never gave any thought to actually killing some of the walkers as they went along.
I'm sure part of that is because they weren't planning on doing this on this day but, if it were as good a plan as it should have been, they should have had two or three people in the front of the herd walking along and killing the walkers in front every now and again.
They might have only taken out a couple hundred or so but with enough time and patience, they could have made a sizeable dent in the size of that group.

    Who's the a-hole?

    Angry teen?
    Gabriel?
    Wolves?
    Someone else?

Can't imagine it would be the angry teen. Why put yourself and your family at risk?

    My guess is the Wolves.

You may be underestimating just how stupid an angry teenager can be, though I'm also guessing it is the Wolves.

My guess is the girl that Carl likes. She's trouble, that one. I love how Carl is, like, 35 now.

I liked it a lot, much better than previous premiers. Great mix of action and character stuff.

Yeah, aside from the series premiere, most season premieres have been pretty slow (usually recovering from the previous season's finale). I liked this one except for the fact that, with the horn blowing at the end, it felt like the previous 55 minutes was a bit of a waste of the viewers' time. If the walkers were all going to head that way anyway, we could have skipped all the long, slow walking down the road shots.

Kevin Smith may have his issues, but he really can be funny as hell. I may have to watch all of Talking Dead.

Yeah, that was quite the um...was that a metaphor?

One question. Why wasn't Carol worried about being mistaken for a "Wolf" and getting shot?

I believe it was a simile because Smith used the word "like."

Regarding Carol, that was a risk, but I'm guessing she was a hell of a lot more concerned about the Wolves than she as about any of the residents of Alexandria. Remember, most of her crew was away. Aside from Morgan and Carl, she's a lot more dangerous than anybody else who stayed behind.

Those Arlingtonians ain't gonna shoot. They can't defend themselves. Plus, she looks cool in her Goodwill Superhero getup.
