AMC's The Walking Dead

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by KYSportsWriter, Nov 1, 2010.

  1. Oh, no doubt. That whole moral ambiguity is what makes the show the most interesting. And you're right -- Shane is valuable in this setting too. The bad/good definitely gets murkier in this scenario.

But I also think the tough-guy survivor may look like a necessary evil for safety's sake, but can backfire. Regardless of whether, for safety's sake, Shane should have killed the walkers, the way he went about it could have endangered the group more, not kept them safer.

Shane's surface motives were simple - eliminate the threat. He's seen them rip persons, some of them he's known or befriended, to shreds without any regard. They are monsters, not humans. They must go.

On the inside, though, he's got a lot going on. He's angry as fuck about being rejected by Lori (as the father of her growing baby, and as her significant other now that Rick is back). He probably has some self-loathing for boning his best friend and cop partner's wife, too. He's also even more protective of a now-pregnant Lori and what he believes is his child. And he's probably irritated by Dale's sudden onslaught of barbs and general assholery.

So, in a way, mowing down the walkers was a coping mechanism, a stress reliever if you will. And it was awesome. Shane is, thus far, the show's best character.

Does Shane know Lori is pregnant? I thought only five people -- Lori, Rick, Dale, Glenn and Sarah (is that her name?) -- knew about it?

Did you miss the scene last night where Lori and Shane talked about it?

I guess I did. I don't remember that scene at all.

You need to pay more attention, my friend. It was a big scene.

I guess I just blanked that scene out after the ending.
