I think I'd be just the opposite. If I made it through the first six months or so, that's when I'd be good. My biggest issue would be making sure I didn't get eaten, not what I'd have to eat myself.

The thing I've always wondered is why more of these TV shows don't portray the survivors of such an apocalypse going all "I am Legend"y during the day and killing as many of the bad guys as they can while they have the advantage of daylight.

If I were in one of these zombie situations, I'd have it organized so that half my group is out trying to find food and have my group is out trying to kill as many zombies as possible. The more dead zombies, the greater chance of getting out alive.

I'm pretty certain I'd be dead within three months if I didn't have someone looking out for me. The quiz game agrees.

The fatal flaw in all the so-called realistic portrayals of Zombie world can be seen in watching a few episodes of Life After People...as that quasi-documentary series points out, just a few hours of humans not tending to our grid will cause epic melt-downs of the world's nuclear power plants, chemical plants, and industrial facilities -- causing fatal plumes of radiation and chemicals to cover all industrial areas within just a few days...and if that doesn't kill you, the resulting death to foodstuffs will.

Zombies have to be better than Homer Simpson at keeping a nuclear reactor running.

Life After People is really smart TV. Loved that series. You're spot on.

I'm not sure how long I'd survive. This sounds cheesy, but I went to a "zombie apocalypse" funhouse thingy in Atlanta during October. They guide you through a society that's overrun by the plague and walkers. You've got some military, a "resistance" group, the weirdos, the religious folks, etc. Point is, we come to the end of the tour and we're in this CDC-like place. I'm standing there with fellow survivors and a scientist who's explaining the cure. Around the corner of the exit comes this massive zombie. I'm the closest to the door, so I jump back. I see the scientist get scared and run out the backdoor, which is the one in which we entered the room, and I follow the scared scientist right down the hallway which we just came that was full of walkers. I would've been swarmed had it been real. The smart move would've been to do something (kick him off balance now that I think of it) to the big zombie lurching through the exit door and scram. But I didn't. Oops.

I'm in good shape, so I could outrun and outclimb any zombie, but I'm afraid I'd make a dumb move and get bit. Also, I don't own guns, have never had a reason to even train with a gun, and am pretty much worthless at fishing and farming.

It was nice knowing you all.

I'd like to think all us SJers would somehow get together and survive for months on end.

But since we're mostly journalists (or used to be), I guess we'd all be fucked.

I'd like to think because I've read some of the great Max Brooks's work that I could therefore buy myself some more time.

I've always been curious about how long, exactly, it would take society to just completely fucking crumble. Like, how long into the first infection does it take before someone kills one of the zombies? And are they arrested and locked up initially?

Seems like there is the before-apocalypse and post-apocalypse but never the in-between time displayed on these shows/movies.

My question is how does the first person get zombiefied? Does that person get sick and then die, only to come back to life as a flesh-eating zombie?
