Zombies can't swim? This so proves that wrong.

There might be a bit of nudity in here so be aware if you're at work.

BTW: If you're wondering, the movie is Zombie

IIRC, the Zombie Survival Guide, which is in the same series as World War Z, says that a deep ocean island is fine, but if you just anchor offshore you have to have someone watching the anchor chain at all times.

I haven't read that but don't buy it. There is nothing I've seen in any zombie show that indicates they would climb an anchor chain or anything else mostly vertical.

A couple of walkers did try to get Shane when he was climbing up to get out of a high window at the zombie-overrun school but if I recall right they were only reaching up to try to grab him. Don't think either climbed. Recollections?

One did reach for him through a window, but I don't remember seeing any of them actually climb the bleachers.

What happens when they ride a unicorn across the water? Should we be worried about that contingency, too?

That's in the next book, I think.

When Glen got Rick out of shit's creek in downtown Atlanta, they climbed up that stair tunnel on the side of the warehouse and the Zs only looked and reached up at them.

I'm going to find the part in "World War Z" that discusses water zombies and those clinging and sort of climbing on the anchors.

Can you read World War Z without reading the Zombie Survival Guide? I've heard it's a sequel. Or should I just read them both in order?

I've only read parts of the Zombie Survival Guide. It was written as a satirical piece by Brooks, but it had a huge following, so Brooks took the fiction to another level and created a world of and post-zombie apocalypse. So, in short, yes you can read World War Z without reading the Zombie Survival Guide.

Zombie Survival Guide is just what it sounds like. It's got a bit of the history of zombies, but mostly it just describes various ways to survive different levels of zombie outbreak

World War Z creates an alternative history story about a world that has been crushed by a massive outbreak.

You don't really need to read one or the other in either order.

    Zombie Survival Guide page 178:

"With all these in place, it might be easier to compromise your living conditions. Use your boat as a movable home as you forage from small island to island, coastline to coastline. This will be a more comfortable, safer existence than on the open sea. Even so, keep a watch for zombies in shallow water and always, always watch your anchor line."

If you've ever been around ships, you know what a rat guard is. Put one of those on the anchor line, and you're golden!
