That would have been awesome. And explained Dale's connection with Andrea and her sister. I've often wondered how they all started out.

I'd read earlier about budget cuts. My first reaction was "Oh, that's why they're stuck on a farm for 5 episodes." Too bad.

The thing I don't understand is the logic in the budget cuts. From what I've heard, AMC wanted to spend as much as they did on the show last year ... but with twice the number of episodes.

Never knew AMC was run by former newspaper executives.

The sad thing is, the cuts are INCREDIBLY noticeable. You can make a case that they needed to stay on the farm to build tension when they pulled out that final reveal but, man, you could have had as much drama in three episodes as they did in six.

I sincerely hope now that the girl is dead they get back on the road and get back to what worked for the first season. While I feel just about everything in Season 1 was epic--with the exception of the build-up to the CDC angle--this season has largely been kind of flat.

    Stupid budget cuts.

Yeah, the budget cuts are obvious. I wonder if they tried to show Atlanta falling by that terrible "firebombing" of the city they showed as Lori and Shane looked on. That was a whole three minutes I believe. Ugh.

I also think some of the budget cuts was to make sure Mad Men had money to operate, which includes paying Matthew Weiner a fat chunk of cash.

Producers respond, say they didn't want to "stall" the show with Darabonts' idea.

Really? You didn't want to stall? Yet you spent seven episodes sitting around doing nothing?

I guess getting more of the backstory means "stalling" to AMC.

Yes. Much worse to delve into life before the zombie apocalypse than it is to spend seven episodes sitting around soaking up the sun searching pointlessly for a little girl who winds up dead anyway. Gotta love the logic.

The payoff, though drawn out, was well worth it.

Absolutely. But at the expense of that amazing Season 2 intro?

    I don't think so.

They could have had just as good a payoff with one less episode on the farm.

    Just my opinion, of course.

I agree, so long as it wouldn't have cut into Glenn's poontang time.

I would have appreciated the alternative opener if only to clear up for me what otherwise seems like a creepy Dale/blonde gal (forget her name, too lazy to look up) relationship.

Did anyone catch the sneak peak during last night's season finale of Hell on Wheels? Looks like we're going to be introduced to more new characters next month.
