  1. I think Herschel's daughter - the blonde who attempted suicide - is a goner as well.

You're under the impression that Carl only looked through the binoculars once for two seconds and that the viewer was shown everything Carl saw.

It wasn't necessary to show Shane and Rick from Carl's point of view. We know Carl was scanning that field with his binoculars, so logic dictates that when Shane and Rick eventually enter the field, Carl sees them and runs out there. It's pretty obvious.

Evil's point is better that it was dumb for Shane to try do it so close to the farm.

And I agree with MB, I thought Shane was trying to goad Rick into pulling his weapon.

  3. But Rick already had his weapon drawn? And he holstered it! Which I thought was dumbass.

Obviously Rick knew what was up.
They start out looking for the escapee, Rick remains behind Shane because he knows. He later, he gets in front of Shane? In the dark? In the woods? Separated from everyone? Knowing the SOB wants his family? Come on man! He can't be that dumb? Right? I thought he was cop?
Shane could have easily popped him the back of the head in the woods with no one around and played it off on the escapee.

    A few thoughts:

    1) I'm betting Shane's devolution was accelerated a few episodes ago (18 Miles Out) when he either got scratched by a zombie or was infected by his knife when he cut himself after stabbing a zombie. He was losing it before that, but he got infected, which accelerated things. That's why he turned so quickly after he was killed. Most of the time, it takes a little longer to go from corpse to zombie, doesn't it? In Shane's case, the process had already started before he died.

    2) It was good to see Carl shoot Shane like in the comic, but it didn't carry near the impact as the comic did.

    3) If Maggie and Glenn die, I'll be pissed. Anyone else is pretty much fair game other than Rick and Carl to me. But Glenn is one of my favorites from the comics. I don't want to see him killed.

    4) I'm betting that Hershel and most of his family either die or their fates are left unclear. In the comic, he kicked the original group off his farm. I'm guessing next week he tells them he's going to stay and protect his land while the rest run. Part of me thinks Hershel and his family die onscreen and it ends any speculation, and I'm sure some of them will, but part of me think there will be a couple that they don't show die so they can be brought back later.

    5) My predictions for the original Atlanta crew in the next episode:

    Carol: Dead.
Andrea: Could go either way but I'll say survives. They've built her into too strong of a character, and she's still around in the comics (of course, Dale lasted a lot longer in the comics, too).
Glenn: Survives, but that could be more my desire to see him stay around. He's a pivotal character in the comics, and he provides a sense of innocence to the show (like when he wouldn't move his stuff into Maggie's room). Still, his death would be a major impact, so I won't be shocked if he goes. Pissed, but not shocked.
T-Dog: Dead. Wish they'd keep him alive and make him a bigger character, though, esp. when they introduce Michonne.
Daryl: Survives. Fans love him too much.
    Grimes clan: All survive.

Didn't they show Hershel talking about staying in the scenes from the next episode?

I agree that Carol is a goner. It's time. I also think the Grimes family survives. Maybe Andrea or Glenn does not just to show that characters aren't safe in the show just because they live longer in the books?

Bernthal's interview at EW.com suggests Shane was, in part, hoping Rick would kill him.

    Kirkman's interview is enlightening, too.

Could everyone who is going to talk about what the comics did from this point on please mention that in the first line of their posts? I know the show hasn't followed the comics exactly, but I prefer to be left in the dark on some things, at least those that haven't happened. (For instance, I don't mind now knowing that Carl killed Human Shane in the comics.)

    HA! That's awesome.

Wild question: Is Rick immune to the virus?

He died, right? Shane said he was dead. He put his head on his chest and didn't hear a heartbeat. Shane said that many times. Assuming he died, then how come he didn't zombify?

Perhaps that had something to do with what Jenner whispered to him? "We know some people are immune. We don't know why. But everyone who dies will rise."

Of course, then we have to assume Rick knew better than to let Shane lay there dead without a bullet in his skull. But we could chalk that up to Rick being in shock from the entire situation - killing his best friend, apparently in front of his son, still reeling from Dale's death, the escaped prisoner who could return to harm them, etc.

    What do you think?

I'm gonna say Rick didn't put a bullet in his head because, like you said, he just killed his best friend and his longtime partner in the force. I think I'd be in shock if I had to do something like that.

    random points.

I think the CDC doc told Rick that everyone was already infected, just a matter of time before they died and rose again. Hence the survivors are the walking dead but they just don't know it yet.

Based on that, it would explain why Rick wasn't terribly surprised when he saw the deputies had been turned while Shane was shocked he couldn't find any bite marks.

Everyone's dead who lived on the farm before, with the exception of Maggie, and of the original group Carol and T-Dog for sure.

And Shane wanted suicide by cop and that's what he got

Rick was fending off his gun-weilding son too. Patricide or death by zombie.

I think Glen could bite it next week in a shocker. I really don't care if Andrea goes, her character is going nowhere. Carol could stay just to drive people nuts.
Glen could easily go to save Maggie one of her family members.

I'd probably cry if Daryl bit it. He is by far my favorite. I'd rather see Lori or Carl go.
