American Idol 2012

I don't have any idea how the Top 5 will shake out, but I'm fairly confident that Elise and Hollie (in some order) are the next two to go.

After that, it's a toss-up between Phil Phil, Colton, Jessica and Joshua, with the suddenly surging Skylar a potential dark horse. Jessica and Joshua are the most talented singers left, but one or both of the non-threatening white boys will be in the finals.

 

I love how Phil said, "I'm not here to shake people's hands. I'm just here to be me." That's flat-out awesome considering the American Idol machine. But I just wish I liked him more. I think he's a poor man's Lee Dewyze,

 

Ouch. I think Lee Dewyze is a poor man's somebody else.

How's Lee's career going?

In fact, how is the career of any of the recent winners going?

Maybe we a winner who isn't a early-20s white male.

 

If Phillips or Dixon win it, it will be the most blatant indication yet that the voting is going to inevitably be decided by teenage girls.

 

Well, Scotty McCreery's debut album has already gone platinum ...

 

A lot of the winners have their first album sell a lot, never to be heard from again.

The show has produced one music superstar (Carrie Underwood), two with strong careers (Kelly Clarkson and Daughtry), one with some past success (Clay Aiken) and one movie star/singer (Jennifer Hudson).

And only two of those won the show. The other eight winners are already mostly forgotten.

 

I think I'd bump Clarkson (five albums have topped out 1-3-2-1-2 in the USA) and Daughtry (1-1-8) up close to Underwood, frankly. Make it three.

 

You can say things like "their careers are forgotten" and "never heard from again," but in reality, these people (if they are smart) won't have to do another day of hard work in their lives. They're all still doing music for a living in some capacity, even if they're not selling out 20,000-seat stadiums.

I'd trade places with any of them. Even Ruben Studdard.
