I know it's too simplistic, but if the best singers have to pick something that's been on the top 10 at some point to stay alive, it seems to me that the secret would have been discovered by now, and nobody would ever cross over into the B-sides.

And frankly, that was the coolest of Bruno's songs. I understand it didn't chart, but it's a nod back to James Brown at his best.

Rhody, I'm giving you analysis that is separate from my opinion. My opinion is that Joshua, Elise and Jessica are the three stars here, with Hollie a distant fourth. The fact is that, as you said, this is a Colton vs. P2 vs. maybe Skylar show.

And Dave Matthews sucks. I will not back down from this fact. Dave Matthews is cool to people who want to cling to their days in college when life was easy and everything was full of promise and potential.

    Dave Matthews sucks.

    Period.

And I know my musical taste is awful. It is. But I would rather go back in time and listen to my parents try unsuccessfully for three weeks to make me than to go to a DMB show.

You know who's the ones doing the B-sides? The pop singers, because they can't take a Mariah Carey song and turn it into a rock song like David Cook. So to "take a chance" they do some weird song. It's never worked. If you're a pop singer (that's Joshua, Jessica, Hollie) you have to keep churning out popular songs because unless you absolutely blow everyone away (like Sparks doing Ben E. King) you're going to bore the voters.
I don't know how the contestants pick songs. I don't know if they have help, but they certainly don't have anyone looking at the history of the show. Everything changed when David Cook - and maybe Blake the season before - came on the show and turned pop songs into rock music.
Whoever does that has an edge and last season didn't have anyone doing that (Paul McDonald started in Hollywood but then switched up to pop-rock BS and got himself eliminated).
I have a disdain for Joshua because he's cheated his way this far. During 80s week, he sang a 70s song that was covered in the 80s; during "Personal Idols" he sang a Mariah Carey cover of a song from the 70s not in the style of Mariah or his own, per the rules, but in the style of Harry Nilson, who made it popular. That pisses me off.
I will say this: if they do a Motown week in the top five or four round and Joshua is there, it might be enough to carry him to the win. No one is going to be able to match him and it will create some separation.

The ignorance in this statement is absolutely amazing; it's kind of the same way my publisher acts when she doesn't get what she wants.

It would be a lot worse if, well ... Dave Matthews didn't suck a little. ;D

I doubt there is a more overrated 'performer' than Dave Matthews for post-college members of my generation. Yeah, yeah, we get it. You're a cool, laid back guy. Wow. Good job.

Sorry, I just don't get the love. And I used to like DMB ... when I was in college ... because that's all it's good for.

Spoiler alert: This link goes to what songs will be sung (though not by whom) this week.

Please please please please please let Elise sing the fourth one own on the "then" list. Beyond that, I don't care.

I'd bet all the money in my bank account that Hollie sings the third one on the "now" list.

So you're saying that Phillip2 has to sing one of those songs at the top? I'm completely baffled as to which one he picks.

That was hilarious. But Rhody wins the overall debate.
