I was hoping beyond hope that Simon, after complimenting Sanjaya, would add... "so after your first decent performance on this show, perhaps you will finally be voted off."

The theme weeks don't do the performers justice. It can show their weaknesses. You wouldn't catch Garth Brooks singing hip-hop, why ask amateurs to do that? At any rate, I still think LaKisha's the best overall talent. I really like her strong vocals.
I can actually see Sangay winning this entire competition if others keep falling off the mark.

You think it is a meritocracy at this point?

You are watching a different reality than I am.

    Big surprise.

The surprise is that the talent isn't there on the men's side. None of them are very good.

Since LaKisha was in the top three last week, I doubt she slides all the way down.

My guess is Haley, Phil and Chris are tonight's bottom dwellers.

Blake is the only one who deserves to be even final four.

I think he is quite good.

    And getting better.

I have a feeling Haley is beyond safe tonight. With Gina going last week, I would think the only other white woman on the show would pick up votes in that demographic. In that same sense, I would not be surprised to see contestants who have had a steady voting base but have not picked up any new voters through eliminations or great performances -- one group of voters shifting from one horse to the next -- be on the block. To me, that would make Phil and LaKisha vulnerable, though Jordin would not shock me even though it would be a damn shame.

Because it can show their weaknesses. There should be challenges. It shouldn't be easy.

My girlfriend made the same point, and I agree

Again, Garth Brooks doesn't do hip hop. American Idol is supposed to be a singing competition. I'm sure many artists would do poorly trying to sing hymns or gospels. I don't like it.

I don't, at all. Carrie Underwood is a country singer. Chris Daughtry is a rocker. Fantasia does R&B. It's not like top-40 artists have to put out 15 different genres.

Let the people perform how they'll perform as artists, and see how the public reacts to what they'll be selling. The end.

P.S. I just realized I'm agreeing with boots. I'm going to go drink some drain cleaner now. CORN NUTS!
