I agree, Simon. Jordin's going to wipe the floor with Blake. But I think she's owned this competition for a while.

Melinda is the most talented but the aww shucks shit got old really fast and she never could never overcome the Pete Sampras-like "I'm so good I'm bland" performances.

 

Apologies to Chuck_Taylor and those who hate pulling the race card, but ...

 

Jordin should have gone. She has had at least two very shaky performances, and Blake has more assurance with his movements on stage. The Jordin fascination has utterly escaped me.

Melinda easily had the best vocal chops of anyone this season. But the contest isn't for the best singer, but for the best "Idol." Can't define the term, but it does mean more than vocals. Even at that, I thought Melinda had more stage presence than Jordin.

As for next week...Jordin has to be the favorite, but if the tires come off again, and Blake has the right combo of playing it straight and adding his little touches well, he can win.

 

Two of the three finalists were black women. It's not racism, it's all those 12-year-old girls voting for Blake because he's a "cute" boy. It's exactly the reason Sanjaya made it so far (and he wasn't white).

 

The final four was OK. They were the most talented. What is an Idol? Beats the fuck out of me but I don't think the final two hit the bill.

 

There is no question Melinda was the best singer this season, but I'll bet Jordin finishes with the most albums sold over her career.
She's just so much more marketable and Melinda didn't seem to have the most popular choice of music.

 

Part of being an American Idol is also having the charisma to sell yourself to the American public. Jordin and Blake both have it. Melinda, as great a singer as she is, saw her "lil ole me" act grow more stale as the weeks went on. It got to the point that I could barely watch her.

But who the hell cares. As we've seen in recent years, you don't have to be the winner to go on to a successful career.

 

Would anybody else agree that, in the short term, Melinda wins out. Chris last year got bounced in this round and that allowed him -- after putting in time on the Idols tour -- to make his own record and release his own stuff instead of being hand-cuffed by the Idol decision makers.

That said, Jordin will sell more records over the next 15 years.

And Jordin will win next week because I can't see the granny vote going to Blake.

 

I will vote for Blake a million times, no matter the cost, because Melinda should have won and Jordin sucks.
