How is that hardly the point? If she's more marketable, market her. He's sold about 350,000 more CDs than her. You think those 350,000 people would have bought hers instead, based solely on the fact that she got more votes? He won because people liked him more. That is sort of a built-in marketability advantage.

He may not be playing hockey arenas, but her CD has been out since January and she's still playing nothing but radio stations.

In all honesty, I had no idea Taylor Hicks had released his CD yet. I saw McPhee all over TV and People when hers came out...nothing for Hicks.

I'm stunned it's been out for six months and I've heard not a word about it.

  3. Amen IJAG. Still pissed about last season. Last night he proved he was the most talented singer last season and it shames me, though I did vote for Blake, that Blake somehow made it farther than my boy E.

I absolutely love Yamin's voice. Hell, Simon said early that he might be the best male vocalist they'd ever had on the show.

    His image hurt him.

Nah, winning the show is the big marketability thing. You have the full force of the 19 Records marketing machine behind you. But marketing gets you only so far. If McPhee had the full marketing force behind her, along with being able to put "Idol winner" in front of her name, she'd be playing larger venues than Hicks is now and selling more CDs.

All in support of the main point: Not fixed.

"The full force of the 19 Records marketing machine"? She's on RCA, owned by Sony. I don't think they cower next to the mighty 19.

By the way, Ruben came in first and is on 19; Clay Aiken came in second and is on RCA. Seen the sales numbers on those?

You guys - McPhee is represented by 19 Entertainment.

McPhee got a lot more "free" publicity than Hicks did, and as far as airplay goes, neither one of them did well. Hicks's album went platinum for sales, but he got no airplay. McPhee hasn't gotten sales or airplay. Chris Daughtry's gotten sales (bigtime) and airplay (bigtime). Yamin wasn't signed to a deal with 19. He's gotten airplay. Don't know about sales yet.

    To recap:

    Sales
    1. Daughtry
    2. Hicks
    3. Yamin (probably)
    4. McPhee

    Airplay
    1. Daughtry
    2. Yamin

    "Free" Publicity
    1. McPhee
    2. Daughtry
    3. Yamin
    4. Hicks

    -------------

Clearly, Daughtry's the winner ... But Yamin might be second.

I own the Taylor Hicks album. I wish I didn't. He does a fine job on the songs, but the songs suck. That's where he's hurting. And I doubt he's alone. You have to remember that they push these folks into the studio as soon as they leave the stage. The longer it takes for that album to be released, the more likely it is that their 15 minutes of fame will have passed.

It's not a joke. It's inevitable. The show is decided by a large pack of 14-year-old girls. Blake (allegedly cute) and Jordin (one of them) were almost automatic to make it.

I just don't want to hear that it's a singing competition anymore. I don't know which one is worse, Sanjaya making the top six or Melinda not making the finals.
