Yeah, I was diggin that. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but you can't deny the skills. Awesome.
I always think about how good those contestants must feel getting to perform with someone they look up to. You know Blake was just bustin inside gettin to beat box with the master.

Hicks doesn't have the pipes that Jordin does, but he was more consistent and more charismatic. He beat, arguably the toughest field in any of the seasons (Daughtry, McPhee, Elliott Yamin ... all of whom have gone on to varying degrees of success). I've always said, part of being the American Idol is selling yourself to the audience. That's why Melinda is home and Blake made the final. I'm not saying it's right, but if you want to be a star, you also have to have the intangibles to go with it. Taylor evidently had it.

  3. I didn't watch before this year, so I could be way off, but I see no charisma from Hicks.
    He is just plain weird.
Jordin is good lookin' and has personality when she sings.

Christ, it's Joe Perry, not Steve Perry. I'm almost disappointed. What a sad followup to a terrific performance by the African children's choir ... damn ... am trying to not read the preceding post as I'm watching the Pacific feed.

You would think the AP would employ a fact checker.

Taylor Hicks is a no-talent assclown. How the heck did that guy win last season? He was painful to listen to tonight, nevermind his tourrette's patient dancing.

Country fans are nothing if not automotrons.

I only said that Clarkson has better range and will last longer.

I'm right on point one and we'll see about the other.

Well shit, I was wrong ... see? Miracles can happen. :D

Studdard was brutal during the Beatles thing. Shameful. Hicks is forgettable ... as in please go away so we can forget you.

I think you meant Clarkson's rage will last longer. DAMN!
West Coast feed just ended...They shouldn't bring the former winners back, it just makes the current finalists look that much worse. Reuben was pretty good, he should be able to take over Luther Vandross' audience. Doolittle rocked, outsinging the Winans of all people and I agree Carrie Underwood has a wider appeal. When I heard her debut album I knew it would be successful - I also knew it lacked soul. At least Clarkson is trying something different - was she singing about Eminem? Remind me not to break up with that chick.

And I agree - country programmers are very mainstream and conservative. Have you heard any decent country lately?

Fucking Fox ran the show past two hours, so those of us who TiVoed it were screwed. The wife and I put the boy to bed at 9:30 and sat down to watch AI. The 2-hour mark came after the Beatles tribute. Had to go online to see who won after missing announcement and reaction. They just lost two viewers.

That's OK, from Tuesday ratings comparisons, they lost more than that. Dancing with the Stars kicked its ass in the Neilsen overnights.

I DVR the show each week. Most times, I'm at work, so I watch it when I come home. Tonight was no different. Made it through two two hours in about 40 minutes, forwarding through the nonsense. When I got the group performance close to the end at I saw little room was left, I thought, "I'm not going to see the announcement." True enough, it ended during the commercial break and I never saw it. So I turned to this thread to fill me in.

Well done, American Idol. You lose the best singer in the field last week, now this. I might be one season and done with AI.
