slap, I'm sure there's a racial factor in it, too. I know this isn't PC, but I'm willing to bet that huge sections of Ugly White America are sitting in their living rooms saying they aren't going to vote for another Aretha wannabe. And getting pissed off every time Randy and Simon gush over another Aretha wannabe.

 

Dial Idol not as solid as it used to be. A lot of people (myself included) do the text message thing, though I would wager that would favor Antonella.

Melinda was fantastic last night. But I'm not buying the Gina stuff. When she sang that Evanescence song, which I don't really like, it only made me appreciate Amy Lee.

I thought it was interesting that every time one of the women sings a Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or a Beyonce song they're ripped for not being on the level of the original, but no one said anything about Gina being about 1,000th as good as Amy Lee...

 

Fantasia and Ruben won, so it is not as if the voters are all Klan members. I'd love to see the demographics of both viewers and voters by age, gender, geographic location and race.

I liked Gina's song last night. I was refreshing NOT to hear Whitney, Celine, Beyonce... all that bubblegum ballad crap.
She might not have sung it well and ran out of gas at the end, but the fact that she tried it worked for me.
I like the voice from the chick from Flint. But I know that Ugly White America is going to keep Antonella for a while, even tho she doesn't deserve it.

 

So that's when Hudson was on AI. I remember watching that episode. Wasn't that when that sub-Barry Manilow hack Clay Aiken was on? America was racist in that case.

And I had a rare Wednesday at home last night and watched with the wife. Melinda was the first contestant I've ever seen where I was like, "She really is good, not some manufactured hack."

The rest were typical crappy AI fare.

 

If race is ever going to be a factor in the thing it will be now when so many contestants are splitting votes and the difference between staying and going is just a couple of percentage points. That said, if Porn Girl and Hula Boy go through again, somebody needs to taint the spread so that there are a couple of nasty episodes of food poisoning in the first two weeks of the Top 12.

The thing that kills me is that, if she goes through, I think Porn Girl might honestly think she's better than the people who are booted. Incompetence coupled with arrogance are damn intolerable. If Sanjaya goes through it will just be sad for all because that kid just wants to go home.

Nope. I'm in the same boat. After his initial performance, I thought he would cruise in Hollywood ... not so much. He's got the voice, talent and experience. For some reason, he's just not showing it.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but Simon was the first to address Barba's pics on the show (albeit without mentioning what the controversy was about). They can't boot her now, the producers had their chance and passed on it. And now we might be stuck with porn girl for another week.
